Context:

The Media and Communications Unit (MCU) is comprised of experienced communications professionals based in Geneva and Manila.

The Team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to the Executive Office, Offices, Departments and Divisions at Headquarters, Regional Offices, and Country Offices worldwide.

It is responsible for global media relations, crisis management and advocacy, and produces a variety of on- and off-line content to enhance awareness of IOM, its operations, policies and data among diverse audiences.

MCU manages IOM’s Global website and social media accounts, its institutional branding, and the development of innovative digital tools, and oversees initiatives including the Global Migration Media Academy and the It Takes A Community Campaign.

Under the direct supervision of the Managing Editor, the Media and Communications Officer (Multimedia) will focus on supporting the timely and professional presentation of audio-visual communications outputs to the media, general public and internally within IOM. These materials include press releases and briefing notes, audio-visual content from the field, infographics and presentations.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical support to capture IOM activities and live events for the production of institutional as well as public facing promotional content in video format.
  2. Propose, prepare and/or review short scripts and storylines for audiovisual content to be disseminated on the IOM Global website and social media channels.
  3. Capture high quality photo and video content in HQ and the field as may be assigned.
  4. Participate in the development and/or update of user-friendly guidelines for the collection and post-production of photo and video content by IOM staff worldwide, such as informed consent and date protection, copyright and technical production guidance.
  5. Support MCU’s Newsroom with the timely editing of incoming photo and video material to enhance the appeal of press releases and bi-weekly newsletters.
  6. Oversee a Team of consultants and actively mobilize and track projectized resources to support the same.
  7. Support the Executive Office and HQ Departments in the production of internal and external communications, including pre-recorded video messages, concise explainer videos and other audio-visual communications.
  8. Ensure that IOM Global Communications promote and support the implementation of the Organization’s gender policy, by ensuring that a gender perspective is integrated, assisting to raise awareness on gender and migration-related issues.
  9. Prepare thematic campaigns for the commemoration of international days and global events relevant to the organization’s priorities, programmes and ongoing activities.
  10. Support the digital archival of IOM owned raw photo and video assets in the IOM MediaLibrary to enable easy retrieval of content by ensuring its accurate tagging and captioning.
  11. Optimize IOM HQ’s Multimedia Studio to establish an orderly use and storage of its audio visual equipment.
  12. Participate in technical Multimedia trainings for field staff in missions worldwide to improve their photography and video outputs.
  13. Support regional and field staff in the development of Terms of References for external videographers on a case-to-case basis to ensure that all production requirements are covered, and deliverables are compatible with IOM’s Media library guidelines.
  14. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Media and Communications, Digital Video Production or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Hands-on experience in the capturing and production of public-facing audiovisual products;
  • Experience supervising the development and production of audiovisual content;
  • Experience in the management, administration and resource mobilization.

Skills

  • Proven ability to produce work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines;
  • Fluency in video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator;
  • Excellent oral and visual communication skills, with an ability to explain complex matters in an informative, inspiring and motivational way;
  • Proficient in the use of DSLR and Zoom;
  • Ability to transmit information and guidance to team members in a clear and strategic manner;
  • Work strategically to reach the Unit’s goals and improve its outputs quality and reach;
  • Ability to assume responsibility for own tasks and delegated work, ensuring its timely delivery.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).

For all applicants, fluency in English and working knowledge of either French and/or Spanish is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
