ACTED is looking for professionally confident, self-motivated, experienced, and committed team player to fill the MEAL Assistants position in Hudur and Diinsoor, Somalia.

Position Profile:

The MEAL Assistant will support the Senior MEAL officer in managing day to day MEAL tasks arising in the Field Office and providing technical support to field teams to ensure effective implementation of the project. He/She

should be responsible for promoting the Acted accountability mechanism and sensitize the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strengthen the monitoring, evaluation and learning system of projects:

  • Participate in the facilitation of training of data collectors.
  • Ensure proper community mobilization and sensitization prior to data collection.
  • Conduct field visits to activity areas and provide regular field visit report.
  • Participate and/or lead surveys during onsite field mission including KAP, PDM, and baseline-end line assessments and as directed by Senior MEAL Officer.
  • Conduct daily debriefing with data collectors and ensure that issues and challenges are reported.
  • Liaise with the Senior MEAL Officer to Identify and obtain any support and advice required for the monitoring activities.
  • Helps in the identification of challenges in monitoring, data collection particularly from women beneficiaries.
  • Participate in regular data verification and audit exercises to assess the quality of data reported and address any variances identified.
  • Assist in promoting learning culture throughout sharing and utilization of learning during project.

Support MEAL team in effective implementation of Acted Accountability Mechanism:

  • In collaboration with Senior MEAL Officer and Senior Accountability Officer, ensure that Accountability Mechanism is effectively implemented in the targeted area’s – ensure boxes and other complaint access point at field level are in place (accessible to both women and men) and are maintained.
  • Ensure that any feedback detected is promptly reported to the accountability officer.
  • Organize and document focus group discussions and awareness rising on AFM.
  • Ensure regular informal feedback from beneficiaries and project stakeholders is collected during his/her field visit, analyzed and timely recorded.
  • Any other task assigned by line manager.

Protection Mainstreaming

  • Promoting of and adhering to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policy and guidelines (for site residents, ACTED staff, partner agencies, casual labours).

How to apply

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in statistics, social sciences, or other relevant discipline.
  • Good numerical, report writing and administration skills.
  • Knowledge of local Somali language is a mandatory requirement.
  • Prior demonstrated 2 years’ experience in a similar field; former experience with humanitarian organizations is a very strong asset.
  • Proficient understanding of MEAL, including the ability to work effectively with tight timelines, high quality standards, and demanding, potentially overlapping priorities.
  • Experience of social research methods to conduct monitoring and evaluation for humanitarian and development initiatives/interventions.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret qualitative and quantitative data and discern useful recommendations for programme implementation and development.
  • Proficiency in mobile data collection (design, deployment, and monitoring) is highly desired.
  • Basic statistical analysis and IT skills, including use of SPSS/R/Stata and Excel for data analysis.
  • Good English communications skills (both oral and written).
  • Strong team player of high integrity, pleasant personality, ability to work under least supervision and meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, transparency, and honesty.
