Sasha Bruce Youthwork was founded in 1974 by the current Executive Director Deborah Shore and works to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth and their families in the DC region. They are the leading provider of homeless youth services in this area. They achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to approximately 1,500 youth and 5,000 family members each year. With 45 years of experience meeting the growing needs of DC’s youth and families with innovative programs, Sasha Bruce Youthwork is committed to ending youth homelessness once and for all.

Position Summary

The Manger, Individual Giving will design and implement a broad suite of fundraising activities and events to build philanthropic support of the mission, expand the donor base, and position the organization for future growth, success, and long-term sustainability. This position will serves as the front line of the development department, creating strategies to attract new donors and retain/advance their giving in the $1-$999 range to achieve key fundraising metrics for the general operating budget.

This position will lead the production and growth of the Benefit to End Youth Homelessness as well as other fundraising channels such as direct mail, online giving and new channels to be developed. The position also ensures the integrity of the department’s donor database, acknowledgements and receipts. This position may supervise interns or AmeriCorp staff, when available, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation

This position is responsible for individual donor efforts at the $1-$999 level

· Develop an annual plan for acquiring, retaining, and stewarding donors at the annual giving level.

· Contribute as part of the department’s annual Fundraising Plan and with Development Director setting metrics for key indicators of performance.

· Drive the strategy and implementation of online giving campaigns, including email, social media, peer-to-peer, crowdfunding, online giving days and acquisition appeals.

· Design strategy and implement appeals to retain first-time donors to make a second gift, renew lapsed donors and invite volunteers into giving.

· Develop and launch a monthly giving program.

· Develop a strategy and communication tools to encourage third-party fundraisers.

· Work with Development Director to identify donors who are candidates for a $500+ moves management strategy to become major donors.

· Work with vendors on the production of direct mail solicitation across giving levels.

· Design and manage annual calendar of mailings, both broad and niche campaigns.

· Work closely with the Development Director on donor segmentation, messaging, and major donor customization. Enlist Marketing as needed.

· Design and implement stewardship activities for annual-level donors.

· Identify partnerships with organizations that have new individual giving potential or community relations benefit.

· Work closely with Director of Development and Marketing Communications Specialist in the creation and fulfillment of an annual Communication Plan that supports all fundraising and donor stewardship activities.

Special Events

The position has overseen the execution of the Annual Benefit to End Youth Homelessness.

· Liaise with event planning contractors.

· Lead event sponsorship solicitation and sponsor relations, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Development Director, Corporate & Foundation Manager, and/or board members.

· Coordinate post-event follow-up and stewardship outreach.

· Recommend and produce smaller events to raise funds or steward donors.

Donor Database Management

The position is responsible for the administration, design, and implementation of a timely, accurate donor acknowledgement system.

· Liaison with Finance Department on gift entry and donation reconciliation matters.

· Pull data for campaigns and mailings; recommend segmentation to match individual giving results

· Code acknowledgement type and produce thank you notes/receipts, including annual statements.

· Once available, train a new staff resource and oversee their work in this area.

· Manage/oversee donor database in Salesforce including the entry of all donation information into database (manual and automated) and the development of standard protocols and systems management.

Qualifications

Sasha Bruce is seeking an innovative and skilled fundraiser who has 3 or more years of development or external relations experience in a nonprofit, education, or public service environment. We seek a highly organized and detail-oriented self-starter who can work well in both a team setting, as well as independently, in a complex and fast-paced environment. An ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of a strong track record achieving tangible fundraising outcomes and the ability to respond effectively to changing organizational fundraising priorities.
  • Experience in producing special events, fundraising campaigns, direct mail and online giving platforms required. Experience in marketing communications a plus.
  • A strong track record as an implementer who can prioritize and manage multiple work streams simultaneously.
  • Experience with donor databases and event management software required; Salesforce and Classy strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer skills; expertise with MS Office suite, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Initiative, creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm
  • The confidence, warmth and professionalism required to work effectively with board members, donors, prospects, sponsors, vendors and others.
  • Must have a commitment to ending youth homelessness, racial equity, and issues central to Sasha Bruce Youthwork’s mission.
