Our Eastern Europe and Central Asia Team operations are based in London. From there we deliver a portfolio of media projects, and work to ensure they are delivered on time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and BBC Media Action best practice.

Job purpose The local coordinator ensures the smooth delivery of the planned training and mentoring activities for BBC Media Action in Armenia. This is a key position that will co-ordinate the day-to-day running of scheduled online courses. This is a great opportunity for someone who has an interest in learning, training, coordination, international development, and media for development. The local coordinator will work closely with the project team, trainers’ pool and mentors, and other BBC Media Action staff to support programme delivery. This includes coordinating the day-to-day logistics and all communications with participants, and the relevant departments of our media partners (from enquiry through to post course follow up).

Main duties and responsibilities

Coordinate the day-to-day logistics of the scheduled online training courses, including:

• Be responsible for the preparation and hosting of the training meeting, using the Zoom platform, and being comfortable using breakout rooms and other techniques for effective training and small group discussions. • Coordinate and circulate through the breakout rooms to answer questions, give assistance if needed and monitor the discussions within the Zoom chat for online meetings. • Be responsible for setting up Zoom for participants who have difficulties and/or are unfamiliar with it. This includes updating and setting up instructions, and uploading course materials if needed. • Ensure effective preparation before and during course implementation including liaising with trainers to ensure course materials are shared with participants and translators. • Answer e-mails and phone enquiries about scheduled online training courses and forward emails and phone enquiries about other services to relevant BBC Media Action managers. • Be the first point of contact for enquiries about scheduled online trainings. • Provide and ensure effective communication with the participants before, during, and after the training and prepare attendance records. • Collect feedback surveys and participants’ list for M&E and R&L purposes • Coordinate among the BBC Media Action team, trainers and participants before, during and after the training. • Support interpreted training courses that have an online component, as requested. • Ad hoc translation (eg. emails, project communication) • Other duties assigned during the consultancy.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience:

• At least one year of experience of planning and delivering training within the Eastern Europe / Central Asia region.

– Professional-level knowledge of software including MS Office suite and videoconferencing • Experience in organising events such as seminars, workshops, or conferences • Efficient and organised with good attention to detail • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills • Fluent in spoken and written English and Armenian • Excellent IT and formatting skills (Microsoft Office) • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work under pressure, to multi-task and coordinate between multiple partners/stakeholders and BBC Media Action. • Problem solving and decision-making skills • Knowledge of/ interest in media landscape in Armenia • Participate in a mandatory briefing on Respect at Work, and ensure compliance with the staff code of conduct and its related policies. • Report any Safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the line manager or using the Whistleblowing Policy • Strong understanding of and commitment to BBC editorial values.

Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience • Managed and organized complex online training courses with interpretation • Online training in contexts of low bandwidth and with trainees with limited digital literacy • Experience providing ad hoc translation • Experience working in the development and/or media field

This role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children, youth, and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process.

Reports to: Project Manager, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Location: Armenia Contract: Part-time (3 days a week) consultant Special requirements: Fluent in spoken and written English and Armenian Duration: 6 months with the possibility of extension. The start date is flexible, but the team is looking for support to start as soon as possible.
