TeacherActive are working with a Further Education College based in Wallsend who are recruiting for several Learning Support Assistants to join their passionate team on Temporary 20 hours a week contract until July 2022. ** Please note it is essential all candidates must have an Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the update Service.**

Role Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the teaching staff, to provide supervision and support to students to help them gain the maximum benefit from their lessons.
  • To contribute to learners’ personal development and encourage self-advocacy
  • To support learners in classrooms, LRC, refectory and other communal areas within college. Also, to include, when appropriate, support for educational visits and external activities.
  • To contribute with developing individual short- and long-term outcomes for learners who are in possession of an Education, Health and Care Plan.
  • To facilitate and support the embedding of individual therapies (SaLT/Physio/OT) and any other health related plan as required into sessions
  • To assist in the preparation, adaptation, maintenance, and organisation of learning resources, including adaptive technology.
  • To support and act as a mentor to any agency support colleagues with the team

Person And Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience of supporting LLDD
  • Recent experience of working within a Further Education College.
  • Experience in supporting across a range of disabilities
  • Experience of supporting learners with challenging behavior
  • Experience of supporting learners with Maths/ English
  • Maths/ English GCSE or level 2 (or willing to work towards)
  • Subject Specialist Qualifications or training e.g. Supporting Teaching in Learning Level 2+, CACHE Level 2+, SaLT, Makaton, BSL, Moving and handling.
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant Qualification
  • Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service – Essential.
