HiiL, a social enterprise that works to enhance access to justice through innovation, is looking for a Justice Innovation Specialist that works on developing scalable justice services in Justice Innovation Labs.

In this role you are responsible for the design of new innovative justice services that emerge in Justice Innovation Labs. Justice Innovation Labs consist of a structured series of creative sessions in which innovators, public sector, private sector and civil society organisations connect (online and offline) to design scalable services that improve access to justice across Africa, the Middle East but also in The Netherlands. The end result of a lab is a viable innovative project plan with commitments for implementation and funding. A realistic plan for practical impact!

The key responsibilities

  • Lead the design process of new justice service concepts across all Justice Innovation Labs at HiiL. Provide a clear and effective design process for all participants and the HiiL project teams. You will work directly with the participants and country teams as the facilitator and have the responsibility for high quality intermediate and end results. This includes documenting the services as part of the final project plan.
  • Analyse the enabling circumstances, and ensure integration into the justice service concepts. This includes national policies, regulatory environment, key stakeholder interests, and local culture.
  • Document and continuously improve the service design process as part of the HiiL Justice Innovation Lab methodology to ensure high quality delivery. Focus on formats and tools that work well in an online, offline and mixed setting.
  • Lead the process of collecting, mapping and analysing justice innovations in the countries HiiL works, and globally. Share a quarterly report on the latest developments regarding justice innovations, and how that could impact HiiL’s projects.
  • Bring in knowledge from successful innovation labs from the justice sector and other sectors.

Our new colleague:

  • Has a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. law, politics, international relations, international development studies, economics, conflict studies)
  • Has 5+ years experience in service design in the context of multi-stakeholder innovation processes for sustainable development themes (SDGs).
  • Has profound knowledge of the justice sector, preferably in emerging markets across Africa and the MENA region.
  • Has political awareness, sensitivity, astuteness and discretion where needed.
  • Possesses solid organisational and communication skills. Understands well how group dynamics work and how to harness the power of the collective.
  • Has excellent analytical skills and is able to think, assess and analyse fast. Does not get lost in complexity.
  • Is strong in coordinating processes and holds an ability to manage a variety of tasks.
  • Can easily combine strategic thinking with practical hands-on implementation.
  • Is tech-savvy and curious to explore new tools and technologies.
  • Is an excellent writer. Is fluent in English, both verbal and in writing. Dutch, Arabic and/or French are strong assets.
  • Is impact driven, results oriented, a team player, independent, hands-on and holds a strong sense of responsibility.

What else:

  • Preferable starting date: by mutual agreement
  • We are offering a full-time position for 12 months with the aim of building a long-term working relationship.
  • A monthly salary for a full-time working week between €4.000,- / €5.200,- based on relevant experience and seniority.
  • The position is based in The Hague / The Netherlands. Holding EU-citizenship or NL working permit is required.
  • More than 8 weeks of holidays when working full time (40h p.w.).
  • You will become part of a dynamic and international team of 70+ professionals.
