Chemonics

Chemonics seeks an experienced legal professional to support the strengthening of a post-conflict national judicial system. The objectives of the activity are to prepare justice sector actors and institutions for a post-conflict legal system incorporating best international rule of law practices while protecting human rights and promoting increased access to justice for all citizens. The position will be based in Southeast Asia with regional travel as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with counterparts from the courts, prosecution, and police including at the ministry level
  • Support the project’s Legislative Strengthening Specialist who serves as the local technical lead for the project’s activities
  • Support strategic planning for court administration, legislative drafting, training of judges and prosecutors, drafting of new procedural rules, a criminal code, and ethics-based provisions in judicial and other legal codes
  • Support short-term technical advisors in their assistance to the project’s counterparts

Qualifications:

  • Law degree such as a J.D. or its equivalent from an accredited academic institution
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a common law jurisdiction
  • Litigation experience as a prosecutor, judge or lawyer is preferred
  • Experience living and working on transitional justice matters in an international setting is preferred
  • Excellent analytical abilities, written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English
