ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews is seeking a Finance Officer for a 5-year USAID-funded media support and civil society initiative with the general goal of further strengthening independent media and civil society in Jordan. The Finance Officer is a key member of a finance team supporting a program portfolio providing financial expertise to assist in the successful completion of the project on budget and in accordance with grants. The Finance Officer will monitor financial aspects of a portfolio of grants including forecasting of project expenditures, compliance with applicable rules and regulations and reporting to funders. The Finance Officer position will be located in Amman and will report to the Finance Director.

LOGISTICS

Internews has a field office in Jordan. Ultimately, this role will be based in Amman, Jordan. Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. This means that some of the particulars around the offer for a role will be dependent on several factors, and that the benefits and salary structure that apply to a position will ultimately be based upon the candidate’s location and where the role is hired.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Maintain program accounting and documentation to ensure compliance with funder requirements and Internews’ policies and procedures.
  • Processing payments to local and international outside service providers.
  • Prepare field cash requests, wire transfer requests, as well as prepares monthly cash analysis for programs.
  • Maintain financial records reconciliation of expenditures, balances, statements, and other day-to-day transactions through Internews ERP system.
  • Prepare Month End Reports (MER) financial reports and reconcile all related accounts using Internews ERP system.
  • Preparation of staff cash advances, expenses reimbursement and other staff related payments.
  • Verify procurement documents to ensure that all procurements are made as per Internews policies.
  • Processing of the local payroll and maintain local taxes payments and compliance.
  • Assuring proper allocation of expenditures to work orders and expenses categories.
  • Verify subaward financial reports and subcontracts in coordination with the Grants team.
  • Support in creation and tracking of Assets IDs in the ERP system.
  • Work closely with supervisor and internal/external audits for document verification.
  • Communicates and coordinates with program management teams, responding to financial questions and providing mentoring and assistance as needed.
  • Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to ensure program success;

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or any related field
  • 3+ year of relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience with accounting systems and NGOs.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office suites, particularly Excel
  • Strong communication skill, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments

Preferred:

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply

  • Experience with USAID.
  • Experience with Unit 4 Agresso.
  • Working knowledge of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars.
  • Experience working with remote teams.
