ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews is seeking a Finance Manager for a USAID-funded media support and civil society initiative with the general goal of further strengthening independent media and civil society in Jordan. The Finance Manager will oversee the program’s financial operations and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all USAID rules and regulations as well Internews standard policies and procedures, monitoring program expenditures, and producing financial reports.

LOGISTICS

Internews has a local office in Amman, Jordan. Ultimately, this role will be based in Amman, Jordan. Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. This means that some of the particulars around the offer for a role will be dependent on several factors, and that the benefits and salary structure that apply to a position will ultimately be based upon the candidate’s location and where the role is hired.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Oversee financial aspects of the program and ensure compliance with relevant donor requirements and Internews internal regulations;
  • Work with the Chief of Party and donors to assess all local rules and regulations, including financial policies, that apply to all aspects of the projects and establish necessary internal procedures and policies for compliance;
  • Produce timely, quality, and accurate financial reports and practices, including monthly financial reports;
  • Supervise finance managers, accountants, and various financial support staff;
  • Maintain all local office financial records;
  • Manage payments to local and international outside service providers;
  • Provide financial analysis on a monthly basis, as well as prepare quarterly financial reports;
  • Prepare monthly wire transfer requests (WTR) for local operational costs;
  • Prepare monthly projections for program activities;
  • Oversee financial management of subawards and subcontracts in coordination with the Subgrants Officer;
  • Ensure that proper financial procedures and systems are operated and maintained;
  • Ensure that petty cash is maintained at a feasible level for operational activities as per HQ petty cash procedures and policies;
  • Oversee local payroll and maintain local tax compliance;
  • Manage preparations of internal and external audits, and prepare responses and actions to internal audit comments;
  • Meet regularly with Chief of Party and relevant personnel to discuss budget vs. projected spend;
  • Assist with new business development, including budget preparation and forecasting;
  • In all duties, an understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required:

  • Advanced degree in finance, accounting, or related field or equivalent work experience;
  • 7-9 years of progressively responsible experience with financial management, financial analysis, and contract management required, preferably with an international NGO;
  • Proven experience with USAID funding;
  • Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations as they relate to financial management;
  • Strong analytical skills and accuracy in working with large amount of financial and other data;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls and audit processes (e.g. procurement, local subgrant etc.);
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and work with diverse staff;
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the workplace and experience supervising staff;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English is required.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with remote teams across multiple time zones;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID policies;
  • Knowledge of Jordan media/CSO landscape is a plus;
