The Commonpoint Queens (Samuel Field YM&YWHA, Inc.) Youth Workforce Department consists of a number of different programs serving youth in building their career readiness experience.  The individual hired as the Full – Time Job Developer will be working with both the Work, Learn & Grow (WLG) Program and Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and will report to the Worksite Operations Coordinator, while also collaborating with the Director of Career Ready SYEP.   These programs provide participants who are between the ages of 14-24 with career readiness training and paid employment opportunities during the school year and throughout the summer.

Program Overview: The purposes of WLG and SYEP are to provide New York City youth with year round employment and educational experiences that build on their individual strengths and incorporate youth development principles. These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and providing positive adult role models.

The goals and objectives are:

  • To provide a valuable work experience at job sites that are safe and well supervised
  • To assist youth in identifying their career interests through exposure to different industries, occupations, educational pathways, and the requirements for success in each of them
  • To enable youth to acquire positive work habits and develop employment‐related skills
  • To facilitate the long‐term employment and self‐sufficiency of youth
  • To enable youth to develop a greater understanding of higher education and career options available to them
  • To enable youth to develop financial literacy and other competencies that will prepare them to succeed in their transition to adulthood

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Job Developer will:

  1. Serve as a relationship manager with responsibility for research, recruitment, cultivation, and retention of employment opportunities.
  2. Initiate and maintain ongoing personal contact with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement.
  3. Be accountable for significant job development and outcome targets, with a focus on Career Ready SYEP/WLG contracts and schools and their surrounding neighborhoods. 
  4. Work with Career Ready school administration to develop internship opportunities within contracted schools.
  5. Collect data from employers related to job orders, including job requirements and skills; match job skills with applicant qualifications; refer qualified applicants to employers, and conduct necessary follow-up when applicants are placed in positions.
  6. Make introductions and recommendations for beneficial alliances and partnership opportunities for the agency and among our partners.
  7. Build strong relationships and directly collaborate with program staff to leverage external affiliations and accomplish shared goals.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of two years, preferred, in a similar position which was successful.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interest in working with high school and college students.
  • Outcome driven with ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Ability to manage, organize and motivate groups and individuals.
  • Broad knowledge of the overall structure, programs, and services of the agency, including policies and procedures.
  • Excellent project management, strategic planning, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency through familiarity in working with people from very diverse backgrounds.
  • Remains composed under stress, handles responses to criticism tactfully, and delivers on organizational commitments.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience working with career counseling consumers in a high volume work environment, particularly in human services or workforce development.
  • Experience providing high quality youth education programming for two (2) or more years.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, networking, and transactional skills.
  • Ability to convey and participate in team oriented work.
  • Computer literate, including experience with all Microsoft Office software packages, local area networks, and the Internet. 

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel to multiple employer and service sites within the five boroughs.

Hours:    Full-time

Start Date: April 1, 2022

Salary: Commensurate with experience
