COOPI is looking for an Operations Officer for the West Africa Regional Coordination for its Milan Headquarters.

Description of the role

The Operations Officer contributes to the management system of International Activities and works within a work team comprising the Regional Coordinator, the Regional Administrator and the Regional Programme Coordinator. It is based at the Milan Headquarters and collaborates with the different areas of the headquarters to support international activities. It reports functionally to the Regional Coordinator. Countries of reference: Burkina Faso, Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal.

Responsibilities

The Operations Officer:

  • Supervises processes for the correct use of planning and management tools;
  • Represents the organisation, in consultation with the Regional Coordinator, in Italy and Europe;
  • Manages the process of selection, contractualisation and training of expatriate personnel.

In particular, he/she is responsible for the following activities:

  • Ensures the drafting and updating of country regulations as well as compliance with donor and COOPI procedures;
  • Supervises country co-ordinations in the application of security procedures for expatriate and local staff;
  • Supervises external relations in Italy and Europe, with institutions, donors and NGOs, in collaboration with the Regional Coordinator, for the geographical areas of competence;
  • Directly participates in meetings and events on topics of interest to the area to which it belongs, in agreement with the Regional Coordinator;
  • Manages the selection, contractualisation and placement of expatriate staff, overseeing ToRs, salary proposals, benefits policy and training plans;
  • Participates in evaluating the performance of expatriate staff in his/her area.

Requirements

Essentials

  • Undergraduate / Postgraduate education, preferably in the field of International Cooperation;
  • Previous overall work experience of at least 3 years, in complex structures;
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian, French and English;
  • Excellent ability to prioritise and organise work within tight deadlines;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with various internal and external stakeholders;
  • Flexibility, listening and confidentiality;
  • Resistance to stress;
  • Interest and aptitude for working in an international environment;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Office package;
  • Respect for the organisation’s values;
  • Interest in growing in the role and carrying out missions abroad.

Plus

  • Previous experience abroad in the field of International Cooperation, in management activities (programmes, projects, administration and finance);
  • Previous experience with COOPI in one of the missions abroad.
