What you’ll do

The role is accountable for internal communications for the Data Science & AI (DS&AI) function, and responsible for coordinated communication for data and AI capabilities across R&D, led by the R&D Data Science and AI Leaders (DSAIL) group. The role holder is a part of the DS&AI extended Leadership Team (LT), and works with the LT to build, lead and implement internal communication strategy in adherence with quality and compliance standards and working closely with Global Corporate Affairs.

The individual will shape the internal narrative of data science success and ensure that partners recognize the impact and value, and that individuals are known both internally and externally for the results they achieve.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify the audiences who matter to the success of the DS&AI function, and data and AI capabilities across AstraZeneca, and what those audiences should think, feel and do.
  • Design, author and compile impactful presentations on behalf of the DS&AI LT for senior audiences such as the Senior Executive Team and the AZ Board
  • Plan and implement a multi-channel internal communications campaigns focused around a quarterly strategic roadmap
  • Oversee development of creative content to break through the “noise”, driving audience awareness and action
  • Manage a volunteer team to deliver a program of activities that engage and excite our people around our priorities and progress against them
  • Direct and coach DS&AI LT members to high-impact internal communications
  • Rapidly develop and deliver communications of key announcements for DS&AI such as leadership announcements, official statements from the VP, announcements of significant new projects or activities.
  • Support communications for the R&D Data Science and AI Leaders (DSAIL) group, in collaboration with Communications peers in the relevant functions, to educate R&D on the role and impact of data and AI
  • Support content and material creation to align messaging for broader and external communications with HR and Global Corporate Affairs
  • Oversee and direct design agencies to deliver professional-grade content (e.g. custom images and graphics)

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in life science or equivalent
  • Background and experience in scientific communication
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Extensive stakeholder management experience
  • Experience navigating complex organisations
  • Ability to demonstrate strong influencing, networking and team working skills
  • A proven track record of leading teams to deliver in a timely manner

Desirable

  • Knowledge of data management and policy, analytics, data science, AI and machine learning
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical drug discovery and development process
