Results for Development Institute

Results for Development (R4D) is a leading non-profit global development partner. We collaborate with change agents around the world — government officials, civil society leaders and social innovators — to create strong systems that support healthy, educated people. We help our partners move from knowing their goal to knowing how to reach it. We combine global expertise in health, education and nutrition with analytic rigor, practical support for decision-making and implementation and access to peer problem-solving networks. Together with our partners, we build self-sustaining systems that serve everyone and deliver lasting results. Then we share what we learn so others can achieve results for development, too.

We have a unique and vibrant culture at R4D. Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of our work environment and help advance our mission. Diversity—of ideas, identities, perspectives and backgrounds—is vital to who we are and what we do. We seek people who embrace these values and will help reinforce them. Our work culture is collaborative, creative and entrepreneurial. We operate based on trust and respect. Teams across the organization frequently collaborate on programmatic work and support each other in continuously building a better R4D.

Results for Development (R4D) is seeking an intern to join its Evaluation and Adaptive Learning (EAL) Practice.

The Practices

The EAL practice conducts targeted research using methods such as formative research and rapid experimentation to answer questions relevant to donor and practitioner strategies. By using proven evaluation methods for adaptive management purposes, we work with partners to design, experiment with, and evaluate solutions to accelerate their impact.

Opportunity

R4D is seeking a self-motivated, creative, and resourceful intern to start immediately. This is an opportunity for someone to learn and gain experience in international development and see evaluation and learning in practice!

The intern will be joining a highly collaborative work environment with colleagues who are enthusiastic about their work. As our intern, you will have a critical role on the team, providing support to technical team members working on a project evaluation. The intern will serve as a notetaker during key informant interviews, transcribe interviews, and support coding and data analysis.

The intern can work remotely or in one of R4D’s country offices. The intern will be working with team members based in Washington, DC and London. They will report to an Associate Director or Senior Program Officer.

Length of Internship

This Internship will be for a minimum period of three (3) months and can be extended up to twelve (12) months. The Practice has a strong preference for an intern who can commit to working through the end of 2022. We are open to flexible hours but anticipate this internship will be an average of twenty (20) hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of an evaluation team
  • Communicate directly with key informants (all external to R4D) to schedule interviews with the evaluation team and support other logistics
  • Take notes during key informant interviews and transcribe interviews from recordings
  • Support desk research related to the evaluation (reading through key documents and highlighting takeaways to share with the evaluation team)
  • Participate in evaluation and practice-wide meetings
  • Support data coding and analysis
  • Support the development of PowerPoint presentations outlining key findings from the evaluation
  • Other administrative tasks as required by the team

Qualifications

  • Final year undergraduate student or graduate student, recent college graduate
  • Experience and interest in conducting qualitative research
  • Enthusiastic about joining a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Highly collaborative and approachable team member who is enthusiastic about supporting the team and working closely with others at R4D
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills; someone who can communicate directly with external stakeholders with professionalism
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
