Insight Manager – Food

The Insight team act as key business partners to senior stakeholders across the organisation, working to create, collate and compile complex and varied sources of data and research in order to inform key business decisions while ensuring that the customer is at the heart of everything we do.

Specifically, this role will be the key point of contact for the relevant stakeholders & their leadership team within the Insight team. This role will work closely with these senior stakeholders to understand the priorities of the department / division / categories and manage projects to help bring a customer perspective to key decisions. In addition, the role will proactively share relevant insight from across the wider insight team with the leadership team of the department / division / categories.

Stakeholders will include Food Commercial, specifically the Bakery & Food Services and Kiosk & Tobacco teams within the Fresh BU.

What You Need To Do

• This role will play an important role in the Business Partners and wider Insight teams, combining our existing tools and sources of data with additional quantitative and qualitative primary research to bring a customer perspective to key business decisions.
• Being the key point of contact for the relevant director/SM & their leadership team within the Insight team
• Work with stakeholders in the business area to understand their needs and priorities and work out the best way to fulfil these – whether that is self-serve, quant or qual research, market data, Nectar data, a modelled solution etc. 
• Understand the key strategic priorities for the division & manage projects (combining customer & financial analytics, quantitative & qualitative research) to bring a customer perspective to these priorities.
• Proactively challenge back to stakeholders where appropriate on prioritisation and the best approach to answering their questions. Identifying any support needed from other stakeholders across the business
• Encourage the use of customer insight across the teams within the department / division by training and embed self-service tools (e.g. Sainsbury’s Insight Platform [SIP], Lettuce Know, Nielsen reports) into the relevant teams.
• Regularly manage the creation of & and proactively share insight updates and relevant work from across the team with the director and their lead team
• Line manage one Insight Executive

• Think strategically, working in a hypothesis-led way to break down complex problems and land the answer with the business
• Understand, challenge and analyse data, whilst stepping back to bring clarity to decisions
• Understand how to bring together varied sources of first and third party data, working closely with a variety of agencies
• Specifically, for the Business Partner role, you need to build a strong network across your business partner area and the wider insight team and prioritise regularly & ruthlessly when presented with more “asks” than you can support. 

There are many ways to have acquired these skills and this knowledge, so there are no specific qualifications or similar proof points required. However, relevant and demonstrable experience is of course essential, so it is likely that successful candidates will have already done roles involving data or research, as well as building relationships with senior stakeholders in a fast paced environment.
