An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Thames Valley.

Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan Force in England and Wales, covering the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire and serving a population of in excess of 2 million. The Force is continuing to evolve and invest as we shape ourselves for the future.

The purpose of this role is to support the effective discharge of the PCC’s statutory responsibilities, with specific responsibility for the management of the Independent Custody Visitor Scheme (ICVS). You will be initial point of contact for complaints received by the OPCC in relation to police officers and staff. You will be providing additional resilience and support to the Governance Team and OPCC, as necessary and appropriate. You will provide general administrative support to the OPCC including answering the telephone and collecting the post. Due to the nature of this role, it is an office-based post.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good standard of education, preferably to degree standard or as a minimum to ‘A Level’ or equivalent and/or proven capability and experience of operating in a similar role and at a similar level of responsibility.
  • The ability to organise and plan events/meetings as far as 12 months in advance.
  • Good communication skills with proven ability to write clearly and prepare complex reports. This includes collating data in relation to the ICVS and ensuring that it is articulated in the form of a report.
  • Ability to implement and understand the relevant legislation and statutory guidance in terms of the national police complaints system and the ICVS and to maintain a good standard of knowledge.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to promote professional working relationships with personnel at all levels.
