BACKGROUND:

Global Support and Development (GSD) is a humanitarian organization whose mission is to rapidly respond to disasters in collaboration with at-risk communities and support them to prepare for future disasters. We value collaboration and seek opportunities to amplify the work of others in-country, both in preparation for and in response to disasters. By integrating our team’s diverse skill sets and resources into local responses, we are able to provide rapid response assistance to affected communities in coordination with regional and country-level partners. We also work to build local capacity through community-led preparedness initiatives. GSD’s priority Area of Engagement is currently Latin American and Caribbean, with targeted support to the South Pacific (and expected future increase in operations for 2024 and beyond).

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Information Analyst, Central America (IACA) reports to the Information Manager and sits in the Information and Program Quality Department which is part of the Strategy Section. The IACA is responsible for collecting and processing data as well as providing high-quality analysis and information on Central America and its context. The IACA engages with internal stakeholders and external partners to develop a strong understanding of their reporting, information, and product needs. The IACA creates information products, including situation reports and information briefs, to benefit GSD and partner organizations. The IACA will also support the team in ensuring information gathering and analysis are completed with the highest degree of accuracy and quality, to include developing and socializing key project artifacts and knowledge management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on Central America and context, keeping a pulse on changing contexts and emerging trends;
  2. Support ad hoc data requests within GSD’s existing standard operating policies and best practices;
  3. Develop key documentation, reports, and other information products both routine and as requested by internal and external stakeholders;
  4. Provide analysis and reports of situations and humanitarian needs, monitoring and tracking emerging trends to inform organization priorities;
  5. Support assessment activities, provide advice on assessment design to ensure data quality, and manage data collection and analysis platforms and tools such as KoBo Toolbox.
  6. Collaborate with external stakeholders, as needed;
  7. Provide information for daily briefings during deployments or mission sets;
  8. Support the development and implementation of two-way feedback mechanisms closely engaging with MEAL and Partnerships Department;
  9. Prompt and action GSD’s core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all work we conduct;
  10. Promote good stewardship of financial and other resources to achieve maximum benefit to those impacted by disaster or at risk of impact; and
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience:

  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience with a specific focus on Central America and context;
  • Data analysis and management; and
  • Project management.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information science, international development, or related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.

Professional Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Analytics Professional or similar desired; and
  • Project management certification desired.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong prior experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis;
  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills with attention to detail;
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities;
  • Effective communication skills to present and advocate for data, analysis, visualization concepts, and data quality practices to GSD staff and partners;
  • Understanding of disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response concepts and approaches (preferred); and
  • Written and verbal proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • At this time, GSD is not offering sponsorship and is only accepting applications from persons eligible to work in the United States; and
  • Routine domestic and international travel up to 35% is required.
