The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action charity. Our mission is to lead the effort to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines but its work extends to the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, missiles, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 10,000 staff in 26 countries and territories.

Working under the supervision of the Head of ICT you will provide ICT support to end users across the organisation. In this role, you will provide onsite and remote support to HALO’s UK-based staff, as well as to any of HALO’s 26 overseas programmes.

In this role, you will form an integral part of a close-knit team responsible for supporting HALO’s ICT infrastructure and security. The role of Information Management and ICT is vital in HALO’s mission to deliver life-saving responses to people in some of the world’s most neglected countries.

Responsibilities

  • Assist end users in all aspects of ICT support
  • Maintain HALO’s ICT infrastructure (i.e networks, audio and video conferencing systems, backups, etc.)
  • Monitor and investigate security alerts, and respond to information security incidents

  • Assist in the implementation of information security technical controls to help ensure that internal information security policies, and data protection laws are upheld

  • Maintain inventory of all ICT assets

  • Design and deliver ICT training to end users

  • Coordinate with in-country programme ICT teams and provide support, guidance, and training as required

  • In collaboration with the ICT team, propose new and innovative solutions to organisational challenges and make recommendations for continual improvement of systems and services

  • Any other duties allocated by the line manager or senior management following consultation with the post holder

Essential skills and experience

  • Microsoft 365 suite
  • Email Server Administration
  • Microsoft Azure Active Directory
  • Microsoft desktop operating systems (Windows 10 Pro and up)
  • Microsoft Office desktop suite (2016/Microsoft 365)
  • Enterprise networks deployment and maintenance
  • File storage and backup
  • An understanding and experience in Windows Server 2012 or newer and associated services, including DHCP, Active Directory, and File Server
  • Good understanding of information security standards and practices in enterprise environments
  • Computer hardware assembly/disassembly
  • Ability to produce clear and concise documentation and to review and improve existing documentation
  • Excellent fault diagnosis and troubleshooting skills with logical and pragmatic thought processes
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to foster good relationships with colleagues and other members of the organisation
  • Methodical, calm and clear thinking under pressure
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Genuine passion for Information Technology

Desirable skills and experience

  • Microsoft Exchange Online
  • Sharepoint Online
  • Understanding and experience with Cisco Meraki; experience with other Cisco enterprise network and security products advantageous
  • Android operating systems
  • Apple operating systems (MacOS, osX)
  • Ubuntu Server 18.04 or newer
  • Cloud infrastructure management (GCP/AWS/Azure) with focus on VM deployment and backup
  • Ability to take effective and creative approaches to problem solving
  • Confidence to challenge existing working practices and offer ideas
  • Relevant IT qualification at HNC level of higher
  • Existing experience in a similar role preferred but not required. Candidates able to demonstrate genuine passion for information technology will be considered.
