Background

NRC is currently working in Burkina Faso and Niger as one country program, with staff dedicated to assisting people affected by conflict. NRC’s humanitarian interventions are based on its programming expertise in the Core Competencies of Shelter, Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Livelihoods and Food Security, along with Information Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) to vulnerable displaced people that were forced to flee as well as in host communities.

An ideal candidate will be a passionate and committed humanitarian worker with 4 years’ experience from a senior management position in a humanitarian/ recovery context. NRC is particularly looking for a Head of Support with the strength and vision to support fresh and innovative support teams (HR, Finance, Logistics and IT) of highly professional staff across our areas of operations. A strategic thinker, connector, with strong support management skills and an individual with a solid understanding of the Sahelian context. Candidates with a thorough understanding of, and experience working with systems and procedure are particularly encouraged to apply.

Role and responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Line management for support managers such as Finance, HR & Admin and Logistics (incl. ICT)
  • Member of the Country Management Group (CMG)
  • Facilitate the support function`s strategic input to the development of the Country Strategy and Plan of Action
  • Provide input on operational support in proposal development, and to coordinate and align operational support with programme plans
  • Responsible for ensuring quality support to project implementation.
  • Facilitate the Master Support Budget, country level budgets and BPO development, including assess and monitor costs and resource allocation needs
  • Responsible for the strategic development of country structures, technical systems, human resource capacity and allocation
  • Responsible for development of new country specific technical SOPs, guidelines and tools
  • Responsible for organisational learning related to programme support
  • Responsible for technical capacity building of support staff

Professional competencies

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience from a senior management position in a humanitarian/ recovery context
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Allocation of resources and costs expertise
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in French & English, both written and verbal
  • Valid driver’s license
