Background

NRC is currently working in Burkina Faso and Niger as one country program, with staff dedicated to assisting people affected by conflict. NRC’s humanitarian interventions are based on its programming expertise in the Core Competencies of Shelter, Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Livelihoods and Food Security, along with Information Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) to vulnerable displaced people that were forced to flee as well as in host communities.

An ideal candidate will be a passionate and committed humanitarian worker with 3 years’ experience of working in a senior finance management position in a humanitarian/recovery context. NRC is particularly looking for a finance manager with the strength and vision to support fresh and innovative teams of highly professional finance staff across our areas of operations. A strategic thinker, connector, with strong finance management skills and an individual with a solid understanding of the Sahelien context. Candidates with a thorough understanding of, and experience working with finance systems and procedure are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience in audit and risk management and budgeting is essential.

Role and responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities will include to:

  • Ensure that developments of budgets for new proposals are realistic and in line with the requirements spelled out in NRC’s Finance Handbook and donor regulations
  • Prepare financial reports for NRC Niger and Burkina Faso projects
  • Update Master Budget on regular bases to ensure all funding gaps are covered, supporting the Country Offices to effectively use Master Budget Vs Actual
  • Prepare and share BVA with budget holders on timely basis, preparing forecast of expenditures in coordination with Programme Staff.
  • Update and follow up on financial standard requirements for field’s offices (develop checklists for control visits, standardized budget template, budget monitoring template, etc.)
  • Liaise with relevant authorities or financial institutions on any financial issues
  • Responsible for capacity building of all finance staff and of programme staff in budget development/control
  • Ensure that all the relevant staff know how to use Agresso and are able to retrieve reports from Agresso.
  • Lead on engagement of Auditors in Country Office

Professional competencies

  • Minimum 3 years of experience from working as a senior Financial Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Solid knowledge of computer software and modern accounting systems
  • Fluency in French and English, both written and verbal
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
