About the Role

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Head of Programmes to lead the design, development, implementation and monitoring and learnings of all GAIN Indonesia’s programs. This role will be offered on a fixed-term contract basis up to 3.5 years, subject to availability of funding. You will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Reporting to the Country Director, the Head of Programmes will ensure program effectiveness through participation in decision making with the Country Director and advising work stream leads on program strategy, compliance with regulations and communications with government and other stakeholders.

Working in collaboration with country program managers and the wider GAIN Program Services Team (PST) and Knowledge Leadership (KL) teams, you will be responsible for ensuring that all programming is of excellent technical quality, delivered on time and on budget and coordinated and contributes significantly to the GAIN’s learnings from Indonesia.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the design and implementation of program activities, ensuring an appropriate programme or project management framework in line with GAIN’s Project Management Process
  • Providing technical input to implementing partners on program implementation, monitoring and reporting
  • Supporting the Country Director with the planning and tracking progress of the implementation of country strategy, including the development and review of annual business plans, supporting the vision set out in the country strategy
  • Ensuring that all program activities align with policies and priorities of the government and are sensitive to and responsive to changes in the political, social, and economic environments
  • Responsible for ensuring the high quality and timely delivery of donor reporting (narrative and financial) for all projects, as well as compliance with GAIN’s internal reporting processes
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders such as Ministries, Local Governments, Development Partners, INGOs, Academia, Civil Society and Private Sector partners
  • Supporting the development of funding proposals to ensure the continuous delivery of existing new programs
  • Carrying out regular budget monitoring and forecasting to ensure spend within the agreed budget parameters
  • Working with the Country Director on key resource mobilisation, advocacy and communication activities including external representation and quality control of communication materials i.e research publications, presentations relevant to GAIN Indonesia
  • Coaching, guiding and mentoring leaders within programme team and participating in the development of programming skills for staff

About You

You will have extensive experience in program management leadership in an international development organization and practical experience in government and donor reporting, designing, setting up and coordinating, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record on proposal development, successful fundraising with statutory, private, and corporate donors and leading policy development preferably in food and nutrition security /Agri-business within Indonesia.

Candidates’ with experience working with the private sector or experience of collaboration with private sector partners is desirable.

The postholder will have excellent management and leadership skills with demonstrated success in building and working with multi-disciplinary teams. You will have ability to work in a multicultural environment and possess fluent written and spoken English. Also, you will be highly flexible and willing to travel in-country and overseas as and when required.

You will have broad understanding of the nutrition-food security nexus, public health, and community development.

A master’s degree in public health, nutrition, environment, business management or social sciences or related field or equivalent experience is required.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated in-depth understanding of program issues and policy work at organisational, national and international levels and will have strong skills in developing strategies, conceptualising programs and demonstrating impact on a large scale.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from IDR 520,237,770– IDR 594,796,410 per annum (gross salary), depending on experience.

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance.
