Main role and responsibilities

Responsible for our Partnership and Philanthropy income streams within the UK, and with scope to develop strategies to secure high level gifts internationally, this pivotal new role is all about building incredible relationships, inspirational leadership, and maximising income generating opportunities.

ShelterBox is at the start of an exciting new strategic cycle with significant ambitions to grow our income. The Partnerships and Philanthropy team have seen substantial success over the past 3 years, doubling our income to £2million in 2022 and creating a thriving pipeline for growth. Our new organisational strategy has set a clear direction for the future, and there is much opportunity to continue this trajectory of growth over the next 5 years in the UK and across international markets.

This role will be responsible for the development and implementation of our strategy across Major Donors, Corporate and Trusts and Foundations income streams. You will prioritise building a strong pipeline of potential support through refining existing, and developing new, prospecting tactics, as well as creatively matching donor interests to our funding needs.

Reporting into the Fundraising & Communications Director, the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships is a vital member of the senior leadership of the directorate and the wider organization.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a leader with a strong track record in 5 and 6 figure gift fundraising and a passion for ShelterBox’s work and values. We want someone who is an inspiring leader themselves and, just as importantly, can develop and lead their staff to be the best they can be. This is a key senior leadership role at ShelterBox and we are seeking a strong communicator, who is adept at developing and leading effective functions, bringing together teams and working collaboratively within the UK and globally.

You will be able to think strategically and will have wide experience of building networks and securing significant gifts from influential and wealthy people.

Experience of a leadership role in the non-profit sector is desirable as is an understanding and awareness of contemporary fundraising trends. This is a great opportunity for someone to join a dynamic and exciting team and play a key role working to ensure that no one goes without shelter after disaster.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • To develop and implement the Philanthropy and Partnerships strategy to achieve short- and long-term objectives
  • Lead the team in building high impact, multi-year relationships with corporates, trusts & foundations and high-net-worth individuals, achieving agreed objectives
  • Work with the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the CEO and Board of trustees to identify and engage new supporters, and to manage relationships with existing supporters
  • Manage your own portfolio of donors and be involved in the most significant opportunities for new partnerships, with major donors, trusts and corporates
  • Work in partnership with the wider directorate to ensure the ShelterBox brand is developed and promoted to grow a thriving pipeline of support and to deliver a compelling case for support
  • Work closely with the Head of Supporter Engagement to identify opportunities to collaborate, and feed your pipeline of high-level support, including through a mid-value giving programme
  • Prepare for and manage emergency fundraising appeals to your audience groups in response to major disasters
  • Lead and inspire the team, ensuring work plans, objectives and success indicators are in place.
  • Build excellent relationships with peers within our Programmes team and wider affiliate network to identify opportunities to increase funding or achieve other strategic objectives
  • Work closely with the Head of Fundraising Operations and Insight team to ensure we are using data and insight for both performance management and strategic decision making
  • Network with experts (both within and outside the charity sector) to ensure we are continuing to improve and evolve our P&P activities
  • Manage financial and budgeting processes within the team and provide regular reporting as required. This includes ensuring that income is restricted correctly and monitored regularly
  • As part of an emergency organisation there will be times when you will be required to work evenings and weekends at short notice in response to a disaster
  • Represent ShelterBox as required and always work in line with our aims, values and plans.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by your line management
