role PURPOSE

The Graphic and Media Officer will support the communications team in visually representing Plan International Jordan’s mission, work, and achievements, translating complex ideas into compelling visual assets.

Dimensions of the Role

The Graphic and Media Officer will have the responsibility of overseeing interns (designers). A crucial aspect of this role involves collaborating with various departments within the organization, particularly the programmes department, to ensure consistent branding and messaging. This necessitates a blend of internal communication, aimed at aligning design efforts with the broader organizational goals. Furthermore, the reach of this role extends significantly, influencing all visual representations of the organization. This expansive scope underscores the importance of the role in shaping how the organization is perceived by both internal stakeholders and the public at large.

Accountabilities

Key Responsibilities:

Design Creation:

  • Design and produce a wide range of materials including Plan International Jordan and associated reports, brochures, banners, posters, infographics, and other visibility materials.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to Plan International’s branding and style guidelines.
  • Collaborating closely with various teams to develop specific branding guidelines for individual projects as required, ensuring visual consistency and alignment with Plan International’s overall brand.

Collaboration with Communications Team:

  • Working closely with the Communications Department person to visually represent stories, data, and other key information in a compelling manner.
  • Offering creative input during brainstorming sessions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s branding and messaging strategies.

Digital and Social Media Content:

  • Develop graphics, animations, and visual content tailored for different social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Officer/Coordinator etc. in the revamping of social media profiles, ensuring the visual aspect aligns with updated strategies.

Photography & Videography:

  • Conducting field visits to Plan International’s project sites in coordination with project teams to capture high-quality photographs and videos, showcasing Plan International Jordan’s impact and the stories of participants.
  • Use software such as Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro (or equivalents) for post-processing of photos and videos to ensure they meet Plan International’s quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Communications Officer/Coordinator to develop compelling visual stories for various campaigns, initiatives, and events.
  • Maintain, organize, and ensure the proper functioning of all photography and videography equipment. Make recommendations for equipment upgrades or additional purchases as needed.
  • Create and maintain a digital archive of all photos and videos, ensuring they are categorized, tagged, and easily retrievable.
  • Ensure all photographs and videos are taken with full consent, respecting the dignity and rights of subjects, especially children. Adhere to Plan International’s child protection and safeguarding policies in all visual documentation.

Print Management:

  • Coordinate with the operations department, printers and other vendors to ensure the quality of printed materials.
  • Ensure color accuracy and quality in all print projects.

Feedback and Revisions:

  • Gather feedback from various teams and stakeholders and make necessary design revisions.
  • Ensuring that the final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand.
  • Staying current with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies to ensure the production of innovative and modern designs.
  • Attend workshops or courses to continually improve and expand design skills

Child protection, gender equality and inclusion

  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children, Young People and Programmes Participants and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan

Key relationships

The Graphic and Media Manager will work closely with all departments, mainly programmes, to ensure coordination and provision of necessary support to all projects and events.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field.
  • At least 3-4 years of professional design experience, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian context in Jordan and the broader Middle East region is an asset.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
