Role purpose:

A high functioning and dynamic global supply chain strategy is paramount to the success of our aid delivery at ShelterBox. The role of our Global Supply Chain Manager (GSCM) is to oversee all key elements of global supply including: emergency demand planning, international transportation and infrastructure management, global preparedness, develop strong working relationships with key partners and suppliers, manage international procurement of aid items (direct spend), reviewing and developing prepositioning warehouses and driving efficiencies across the global supply chain.

The GSCM is deployable, for a maximum of 30% of the year, for business travel and international programmes. Although travel is expected of this role, the extent of this is flexible depending on individual circumstances.

The GSCM is a competent leader, analytical, plans for the future and an excellent project manager. They build strong personal relationships across their network as well as within ShelterBox, and works closely with the senior International Programmes Directorate colleagues.

We have recently completed a thorough strategic review at ShelterBox and a key part of the Global Supply Chain Manager’s role is to work with senior colleagues in the Supply Chain Team to establish strong relationships across the wider department in order to integrate the supply chain function successfully into the International Programmes Directorate structure.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Lead on evaluating ShelterBox’s current global supply model and implement required changes in line with organisational strategy taking into consideration any decentralisation requirements.
  • Manage, coach and develop a team of Supply Chain Specialists to meet personal and organisational objectives, deliver best results and support the team’s wellbeing.
  • Manage global logistics infrastructure, storage facilities and transportation resources.
  • Oversee application of systems and procedures for inventory management and transportation.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Manager to develop and implement direct procurement strategy across aid items and global infrastructure.
  • Ensure related safety and security protocols are implemented.
  • Develop and maintain quality global supply chain partnerships, including key UN/IFRC partners and Global Logistics Cluster.
  • With Head of Supply Chain (HoSC) and Programmes Supply Chain Manager, be responsible for strategic planning for the Supply Chain Team including demand forecasting and budgeting.
  • Support and foster integration of Supply Chain into International Programmes.
  • Lead on driving forward meaningful changes to meet our sustainable supply chain targets.
  • Ensure ShelterBox stays aware of current trends, innovations and best practice in global supply within the humanitarian sector.
  • Working with HoSC, responsible for global supply chain risk management.
  • Always work closely with the counterpart Programmes Supply Chain Manager and Procurement Manager.
  • Lead on ensuring accountability and transparency across supply chain.
  • Support the Philippines country office with supply chain development and implementation.
  • Responsible for the proper information management relevant to Supply Chain within programmes.
  • Support the multi-year Business Systems Transformation process
  • Conduct procurement tenders for IPD stock and logistics expenditure and oversee the subsequent procurements of stock and services
  • Have budgetary sign off for stock and logistics expenditure
  • Together with IT, contribute to the development and implementation of a fully automated supply chain.
  • Provide regular internal and external briefings to staff and wider audiences.
  • Support the continual professional development of staff, volunteers and partners in operational roles, including assisting with developing and delivering logistics training.
  • Promote and foster a learning culture within the organisation.
  • Responsible for ensuring relevant records are kept as per auditor requirements and in line with best practice.
  • Working with HoSC, responsible for monitoring and implementing learnings from programme and project evaluation.
  • Ensure adherence to ShelterBox procedures and policies including those relating to safeguarding, safety and security.
  • Support and/or lead on departmental projects as required.
  • Represent ShelterBox as required.
