About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

In the role of Global Senior Technical Advisor for MAG’s Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) sector, you will be responsible for guiding the strategic direction of our global HMA operations. This position demands not only a mastery of current practices but also the vision to innovate and improve our methodologies.

Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing organisational policies that are aligned with global best practices in HMA. These policies will directly influence the effectiveness and efficiency of MAG’s operations, and you will be expected to advocate for these standards in international settings.

A significant part of your role involves external representation. You’ll represent MAG in sector-specific events and discussions, building partnerships and advocating for the needs of communities in mine-affected areas. Your ability to communicate effectively and build networks will be crucial in elevating MAG’s profile and impact in the HMA sector.

You will also be tasked with integrating new technologies and methods into MAG’s HMA operations. This aspect of your role involves keeping abreast of advancements in the field and evaluating their applicability to our work. Your decisions will directly impact the operational effectiveness of our programs.

As a leader, you will be managing a team of technical advisors, fostering a collaborative work environment, and ensuring that your team’s activities align with MAG’s strategic objectives. Your leadership will be key to maintaining a high-performing team that contributes significantly to MAG’s mission in the Humanitarian Mine Action sector.

About you:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working at a senior level, delivering large multi-funded projects with a focus on designing and managing HMA projects. You will be EOD3 or ATO qualified and have field experience in all relevant mainstream operational approaches and methodologies. Communication skills are essential to this role as the post holder will have the ability and experience of building effective working relationships and influence a variety of stakeholders when representing MAG. You will need to have familiarity with IMAS and GICHD HMA publications as well as fluency in written and spoken English with the ability to write HMA publications for development and promotion of MAG technical operations.
