This is an exciting opportunity to advance gender equality and inclusion within NRC’s humanitarian programming and architecture. You will lead the development of a new Gender and Inclusion policy and coordinate capacity-building efforts, providing training and support to NRC staff to enhance their skills in gender-sensitive programming, and support the integration of gender into NRC’s Ways of Working.

What we are looking for:

NRC is seeking a highly qualified “Global Gender Project Manager” with high level of programme implementation experience at country level in the humanitarian sector. The ideal candidate has experience in design and delivery of gender sensitive programming in humanitarian action and with excellent understanding of safe and inclusive programming / gender / protection / GBV mainstreaming principles. Note that Safe and Inclusive Programming is the terminology that NRC uses to describe mainstreaming protection, gender, age and diversity.

What you will do:

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead on developing NRC’s new Gender and Inclusion Policy, including with a plan for implementation and reporting.
  • Lead on testing the existing gender learning package (training and guidance) covering, but not restricted to, gender mainstreaming, rapid gender analysis, and GBV risk mitigation in programming. Coordinate the development of additional modules to complement existing gender training. This includes in person training in country offices and regional offices.
  • Conduct training of trainers with relevant staff at CO, RO, and HO level on the gender learning package (in-person and remotely)
  • Oversee the consolidation of the global learning package into an online learning course (on Kaya platform), with a mixed methodologies approach.
  • Oversee any relevant consultancies related to gender mainstreaming and responsible for project management of any global gender projects.
  • Collaborate with and provide technical support to colleagues at RO and HO level (particularly Core Competencies), with a view to integrate gender mainstreaming in their ways of working.
  • Develop practical how-to guidance for Core Competencies on gender mainstreaming, including by mapping and collecting good practice.
  • Support and find avenues for the integration of gender mainstreaming into NRC’s ways of working (project cycle management, CO strategy processes)
  • Fundraise to support the further development and implementation of the Gender and Inclusion policy and build the capacity of others to better integrate gender mainstreaming across proposals.
  • Provide NRC management with an analysis of the progress in gender mainstreaming in programming and processes.
  • Represent NRC externally and participate in relevant forums on gender mainstreaming and GBV risk mitigation when requested.

What you will bring:

  • Advanced academic qualification in a relevant field (law, social sciences, or related disciplines).
  • Minimum 5 years of programme implementation experience at country level in humanitarian settings Candidates with NRC programme implementation experience will be prioritised.
  • Experience in design and delivery of gender sensitive programming in humanitarian action.
  • Excellent understanding of safe and inclusive programming / gender / protection / GBV mainstreaming principles
  • Excellent understanding of humanitarian gender and protection policies, standards, and coordination, including protection from violence / GBV
  • Ability to think strategically and constructively and to apply gender technical skills in developing policy frameworks and guidelines to support institutionalisation of gender sensitive programming.
  • Experience in developing and delivering high quality gender-related training and tools to support practical implementation of protection standards.
  • Experience moderating webinars or other online discussions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of one other official NRC language (Arabic, French, Spanish) required.

  • Duty station: NRC Oslo – Norway or any of NRC’s Representational Offices in Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, or London.
  • Contract: National permanent contract.
