Geographical Information Systems Specialist in the field

As a Geographical Information Systems Specialist, you will ensure the monitoring of the mission’s systems and produce cartographic tools.

Responsabilities :

• Define procedures and ensure the implementation and correct functioning of the mission’s GIS
• Manage technical activities to support to the epidemiologists, medical and logistics teams
• Manage response and prioritization requests for map products and services and support all medico-operational activities such as logistics, supply, outreach, water sanitation and hygiene, security, communication, health promotion
• Manage the development, quality control and reproduction of products in appropriate formats for clients. Use and advocate for data and mapping standards
• Identify, gather and incorporate external datasets into the MSF repository. Manage the geographical data base of the mission and work with the data to create thematic maps and analytical products
• Carry out assessment and feasibility studies to provide the mission with alternatives and possible solutions to challenges concerning GIS
• Where standard protocols are not available or appropriate, develop a protocol to ensure its functioning
• Provide technical advice and oversight of quality and strengthening knowledge of the team. Manage training and skills development support to staff with e.g. simple mapping, Google Earth or use of GPS.

Depending on our activities and needs, your responsibilities may be adapted and evolve according to the specificities of each project.

You will not be facing these challenges alone – other MSF team members, both international and locally hired staff, will provide technical support, including extensive guidelines and protocols. You will also benefit from the support of the technical GIS unit in Geneva.

Requirements:

• University Diploma in Geographical Information System, Engineering or Geography with a focus in GIS or equivalent experience
• At least two years’ relevant professional experience
• Essential experience in managing data collection, entry and maintenance and in managing or developing databases mandatory
• Strong practical experience in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), such as Kobo, Osmand, Arcgis collector, ODK, Mapsme or other
• IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Fluency in English and/or French; any other languages are an asset (Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian)
• Available for a minimum of six months
