Internews Europe

Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Specialist

Internews Earth Journalism Network Asia-Pacific

Part-Time Personal Service Contract

Overview

Established in 2004, the Earth Journalism Network is Internews’ flagship environmental program, which aims to improve the quality and quantity of environmental media reporting. With funding from Sweden, the EJN Asia-Pacific project, launched in August 2017, builds on EJN’s longstanding work in the region to improve the capacity of local and regional journalists and partners to promote greater accountability and sustainable development in relation to the environment and climate in Asia and the Pacific. It does so by building the capacity of individual reporters, media outlets and journalism networks to cover environmental, climate change and natural resource managements issues; to spread news and information to the most vulnerable communities and to help boost the voices of women and marginalized groups who are most at risk.

EJN Asia-Pacific has now entered its second phase of implementation since 31 January 2022. As part of this new phase covering a period of three years, EJN will deepen its gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) approach throughout the project. We will establish a GESI helpdesk for our organizational and individual grantees to provide GESI support and advice, provide story grants and mentorship for journalists who are women, youth and/or indigenous peoples; as well as provide media engagement training and networking to women environmental defenders.

Internews EJN is hiring a part-time Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Specialist to lead the design and implementation of EJN’s GESI activities.
