Libreville, Gabon Management and Engineering Technologies International Inc., in support of the U.S. Forest Service International Programs (hereinafter “USFS-IP”) may seek the services of a Technical Program Assistant (hereinafter “Consultant”) support the Country Coordinator in Gabon to carry out US Forest Service technical activities focused on combatting illegal logging, wood identification and forest management and certification in Gabon. Background The USFS Central Africa Program works with host country governments, universities, and local and international non-governmental organizations to address and promote sustainable forest and land management, biodiversity conservation and responses to climate change across the Congo Basin. By sharing and exchanging knowledge, expertise, and experience, the USFS aims to build capacity in program countries to promote the sustainable use and management of natural resources and improve lives. As an implementing partner of the U.S. Agency of International Development’s (USAID) Central African Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE) as well as other US funded programs, USFS-IP, is supporting the government of Gabon to address threats from illegal logging, deforestation, forest degradation, land degradation and loss of biodiversity by building the capacity of national institutions to mitigate climate change and to improve management of natural resources, sustain biodiversity and ecosystem services. To support the implementation of this work, USFS-IP may seek a full-time Technical Program Assistant, to directly assist the USFS Gabon Country Coordinator and provide technical and administrative support for the coordination of USFS-IP activities in Gabon. Position Description: Specific tasks the Consultant will perform include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide administrative and logistical support including financial management and budget preparation for trainings and workshops associated with CARPE, Illegal Logging and SilvaCarbon work plans;
  • Support technical assistance missions associated with the establishment and implementation of community forestry, carbon monitoring, illegal logging and ecotourism programs in Gabon, and other potential regional missions; and,
  • Support regular project reporting to the Gabon Country Coordinator and IP Program Manager on administrative and financial activities, including those with partners, as necessary

In order to complete these tasks, the Consultant should have the following background, experience, and skills:

  • At minimum, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in forestry, ecotourism, natural resource management, sustainable development, or a related field;
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with international organizations, donors and partners in the field of natural resource management, forestry or conservation;
  • High competency in use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications;
  • Fluency in French, and basic English competency;
  • Strong understanding of Gabon government ministries and processes;
  • Preference will be given to Gabon residents

Location: The position would be based in Libreville, Gabon, with travel regionally or internationally as needed.
