Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre

The Climate Centre is one of the advisers on the Climate Action Journey towards locally led adaptation, funded by USAID through the IFRC. This programme focuses on scaling up locally-led, integrated and multi-sectoral approaches which can help build sustained climate resilience at community level. It will introduce a new, holistic approach to ensure transformational change across target National Societies’ institutional set-up, programs, and operations, ensuring they become truly ‘climate-smart’ and scale up proven, evidence-based climate change adaptation efforts. In 2024, there are new countries embarking on this journey across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. The overall aim of these projects is to support communities to reduce their climate-related risks and adapt to climate change, including in some of the least supported and most vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, coordinate and provide technical guidance to National Societies to support the development of National Climate Risk Assessments based on demand in two project countries
  • Guide and support the climate-smart screening processes of programmes and operations, plans and strategies of the National Society to identify if and how changing climate risks should be factored in two project countries
  • Provide technical support to the development of multi-year Climate Strategies to National Societies in two project countries
  • Overall coordination of all Climate Action Journey progress, in close collaboration with the programme manager
  • Support the reviews and quality control of all materials produced with National Societies
  • Monitoring of timelines, budgets, team time writing and expenses to ensure we deliver on time and within budget.

Profile

  • Completed a Master’s degree in climate adaption or climate change
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience in climate change adaptation or related field
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience in climate related budget and project monitoring
  • Excellent English language writing and communication skill
  • The Consultant must be home based within Europe

We offer a home-based assignment with limited international travel, flexible work hours and a global virtual working environment with room for initiative and personal development.
