We are hiring a Food Security & Livelihoods Technical Advisor to serve with our office in South Sudan.w This role is based in Unity State where you will provide strategic advice and oversight Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) portfolio. As the Technical Advisor (TA) you will support ministry leadership by developing, designing, and implementing high-quality interventions and ensure that sufficient capacity exists within the FSL team to respond to ongoing humanitarian and development needs. Our programs will be focused on agriculture through staple crops, seed systems, and mechanized farming. A day in the life of a Food Security and Livelihoods Technical Advisor:

In the role of Food Security and Livelihoods Technical Advisor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Develop FSL proposals, in collaboration with the grants unit, and secure new FSL program funding
  • Ensure effective coordination with program managers in the field and with the necessary FSL clusters and working groups (ex. food security cluster, cash working group, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources, etc.)
  • Maintain working relationships with internal stakeholders (ex. global technical advisors, regional team), external stakeholders (ex. government ministries), and funders (ex. BHA, WFP, FAO, etc.)
  • Work closely with all relevant sector program managers and area coordinators
  • Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation teams to conduct high-quality, community-specific FSL assessments to guide FSL programming and decision-making
  • Ensure that large-scale grants and other specially funded initiatives are implemented in alignment with ministry objectives and that program managers are being held accountable for the financial management of their projects
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for national staff and work as a mentor for less experienced team members
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, forestry, or environmental science and 5 years of humanitarian work with substantial experience in the design, implementation, and management of FSL programs within the humanitarian sectors. Experience in agricultural extension activities and experience with proposal development, grant management, and report writing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement is available upon hire.
  • Good understanding of FSL programs, including graduation from poverty, early warning early action (EWEA), resilience, cash-transfer programming, gender-sensitive livelihoods and income-generating activities.
  • Knowledge of institutional donors and a proven track record in developing funding proposals and reports for a range of institutional and other donors.
  • Good knowledge of the project cycle.
  • Good report writing and reviewing skills.
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills.

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required); Arabic a plus

Accompaniment: Non-Accompanied

Travel Expectations: Domestic Travel within South Sudan up to 30%; required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary
