Overview of position:

  • Under the overall supervision of the Operations Officer & the direct supervision of Logistics Officer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate shall be responsible for selecting, maintaining vehicles to keep deliveries, distributions to all mission activities on schedule, within its established budget in line with our clients standard procedures rules & regulations.

Role objectives:

  • Prepares budget estimates for transport activities and data on volume of transportation activities for periodic, annual reports & projections of future requirements.
  • Maintains & updates library on transportation related publications.
  • Assist in the development of surface / air transport safety, maintenance rules, regulations & those on safe driving.
  • Assist in planning the use of surface / sea transport to achieve predetermined outcomes using cost effective, efficient methods to deliver services through unit level managers & deployed teams.
  • Assist in the compilation of advice on the serviceability of vehicular / sea equipment in use & on the disposal of the unserviceable or beyond economical repair.
  • Prepares specifications for the acquisition of special handling equipment & maintenance of terminal facilities to assure that sensitive or fragile items are properly handled.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, statistics, other documents required for vehicle establishment review, regular ad hoc reporting requirements related to air transport operations & surface/air transport annual budgets.
  • Compile data on item specifications (size, weight, dimension, content, etc.) to determine which type & size of transport vessels (motor, rail, sea, or air) would be required for a particular program activity.
  • Compare transport cost estimates, potential delivery schedule & critical needs to determine which mode of transportation would be most economical.
  • Provide the needed support to the mission and program in drafting plans, directives, recommendations, or documents related to support in its various program / project activities.
  • Reviews & verifies all dangerous cargo transport requests.
  • Supervises staff to obtain maximum productivity.
  • Strictly adhere to our clients policies, procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse & promotion of a respectful work environment.
  • Undertake work related travel at the request & approval of the COM.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Project reporting:

  • This role works under the overall supervision of the Operations Officer & the direct supervision of Logistics Officer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.

Key competencies:

  • Master’s Degree preferably in Logistics, Accounting, Business Administration or any related field & / or Bachelor’s Degree in any of the same fields with 2 years of professional work experience.
  • Experience in logistics & transportation industry.
  • Experience working with the operation, maintenance or administration of fleets & vehicles.
  • Experience with fleet management methodologies & techniques.
  • Experience with commercial fleet, mobility & public relations.
  • Previous experience working with an international NGO or UN agency preferred.
  • Great knowledge of vehicles, knowledge of applicable laws & regulations.
  • Analytical mindset, good problem solving skills & quantitative ability.
  • Excellent organizational skills & attention to details.
  • Computer & software skills.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws & regulations.
  • Fluency in English (oral & written.
  • Working knowledge of Chukeese or any other Micronesian languages.

Team management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.
