Position Objective

Protects the hospital from losses by ensuring 100% insurance verification and authorization is obtained for inpatient admissions for Medical Park Admissions. Works with patients, and their family to understand the extent of financial responsibility. To assist and guide customers through available programs and funding for assistance with payment for medical services. Manage processes for customers applying for Medicaid program. To serve as a resource and Financial Services liaison to utilization review and clinical services.

Essential Job Duties

Identifies patients without adequate health insurance. Provides financial responsibility information to patients, family members or physician practice. Communicate hospital payment policy and when necessary recommends funding program to benefit the patient and hospital. Insurance Verification.

Takes initiative to ensure 100% outpatient cases and radiation therapy and diagnostic procedures are insured and authorization obtained.

Documents in EPIC system in accordance with PFS policies and procedures and communicates updates and pertinent information to utilization review.

Resets insurance and other data fields with corrections and communicates using reminder system to team leaders for billing.

Ensures that all aspects of customer service responsibilities are maintained by discussing account balances and collecting on such balances.

Control all monies in safe and prepare deposits for pick up by ARA on a daily basis. Receives payment on accounts and prepares journal.

Knowledge of Radiation Oncology coding and billing technical and professional procedures.

Daily review of physics charges and simulation charges with physicians. Performs weekly chart audit as well as end of treatment audit. Preparation of monthly Quality Assurance reports.

Collaborates with nursing, therapists, physicist, physicians and customer service reps to ensure billing and registration and scheduling compliance. Collaborate with inpatient patient financial services to assure protect the hospital from financial loss.

Representative in hospital wide meetings discussing billing and coding challenges. Represents lead position referencing billing, insurance and coding in Quality Assurance and Quality Initiative meetings.

Educational/Experience Requirements

Expert representative for ARIA software and interface systems.

Bachelor degree preferred.

Require Numerical Skills And Previous Billing/Accounts Receivable Systems Experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills must be demonstrated.

Three to five years’ experience in hospital billing or collections in automated setting.

Preferred: previous experience in Medicare, Blue Cross and Medicaid billing for certain positions. Medical terminology experience preferred.

Required License/Certifications

Experience in radiation oncology billing preferred

ROCC (Radiation Oncology Certified Coder) Certification preferred.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands –

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
