Job Description

The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery, and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Position Overview

The finance Intern has the overall responsibility of assisting a smooth implementation of day to day accounting transactions and ensuring implementation of donors’ rules and regulations and IRC finance polices & procedure.

Major Key Responsibilities

  • Support Cash room activity by Preparing check and effect payments after approval from the designated official.
  • Responsible to maintain files of financial records, agreements and other documents.
  • Keeping all used and unused finance vouchers in a safe place. Support Audit by pulling out and provide the document for the Auditor
  • Make sure each month Addis financial document scan and upload on box
  • Prepare Government invoice report at Addis level and compile for all fields and report monthly bases.
  • Assist the Finance Assistant in preparation of the reports.
  • Will Settle all taxes Income tax, withholding tax & Pension monthly bases.
  • Keep filing systems in which documents could be readily available and easily traced.
  • Give attention to detailed accuracy and neatness in documentation.
  • Perform financial duties in line with IRC Program, Personnel & Finance Regulations.
  • Make sure that all finance documents are stamped with IRC Ethiopia Paid or Received stamp
  • Prepare any finance related outgoing letters to bank and collecting bank slip.
  • Do all tasks assigned by the Finance team

Key working relations

The Finance Intern will directly report to the Finance Assistant with additional oversight from the Finance Officer and Finance Manager.

Qualifications

  • BA Degree in accounting a minimum zero year / Accounting Diploma minimum one year experience.
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Operating MS office applications
  • Operating excel, Word and Access is required. Knowledge of Sun Accounting system and/or other accounting software is advantageous
  • Strong organizational and social skills
  • Positive and professional personality, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work, under pressure, able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Experience working in hardship areas and Ability to work under pressure and stressful situations.
