The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. We are an international development organisation owned and governed by our 26 country and territory members. In pursuit of sustainable development to benefit Pacific people, our organisation works across more than 20 sectors. We are known for our knowledge and innovation in such areas as fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience, and conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.

The Operations and Management Directorate (OMD) provides corporate services to all SPC divisions and programmes. It consists of three key teams: Finance, Human Resources and Information Services. OMD is focused on improving the effectiveness of systems, policies and management so as to provide high-quality customer-oriented services.

The Finance Assistant will provide operational support to the Finance Section of OMD in the following areas: payments of local and foreign transfers, vendor management and reconciliation, advances and acquittals, financial processing, and other functions as required.

  • Vendor reconciliation and customer invoicing
  • Advances and acquittals
  • Financial processing
  • General office activities

Key selection criteria

Qualifications

  • Diploma in accounting, finance or related discipline

Knowledge and experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in finance related work
  • Sound knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Windows and accounting software preferably MS Navision
  • Demonstrated experience in managing vendor reconciliation and payments

Essential skills

  • Aptitude for the provision of high-quality service
  • Ability to work under pressure, with a team-oriented approach
  • Excellent time management skills and organisational skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy

Language skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)

Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, inclusive and equitable environment

Salary, terms and conditions

Contract Duration – 3 years

Remuneration – This is a full-time position at Band 6 in SPC’s 2022 salary scale, with a commencing taxable salary range of FJD 1,846-2,308 per month, plus local staff benefits. An offer of appointment for an initial contract will be made in the lower half of this range, with due consideration given to experience and qualifications. Progression within the salary scale will be based on annual performance reviews.
