? About You
As Finance Assistant at Mous, your inputs will be vital to our day-to-day operations. This is no ordinary junior role, your work will feed into most deliverables of the department!
You will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of tasks within Finance so we’ll need you to swiftly get to grips with our core systems and processes and begin to own your piece of the Finance pie. This will include the ownership of the department’s central mailbox; taking the lead on all things invoices and bank reconciliations related; leading on payment runs; owning the trade facility process; supporting with month-end, tax returns, and audit; helping to drive process improvements within the department; and much more.
On top of your day-to-day role, you’ll have the opportunity to drive various process and system improvements and to gain exposure to the inner workings of a commercial Finance function.
You’ll be part of an agile Finance team and will play an important role in helping us achieve a number of our departmental level objectives. In this opportunity, your core responsibilities will involve:
- Management of the Finance team’s central mailbox
- Ensure invoices are loaded onto the system in a timely manner
- Ownership of the bank reconciliation process, including transaction imports
- Ownership of the weekly payment run process and related tasks
- Ensure Amazon-related costs are captured into the system in a timely manner, including the posting of related accruals during the month-end process
- Liaise with the China team to ensure factory bills are loaded onto the system in a timely manner
- Ensure factory bills due dates on the system are updated on a weekly basis
- Support with the Finance month-end process, owning a set of account codes on the trial balance
- Support with preparing financial reports for submission to our bank each month
- Support with completing the UK and international VAT and sales tax returns to help ensure we’re meeting all tax-related compliance requirements
- Support the team to ensure the successful delivery of our annual statutory audit
- Owning the trade facility process, including review of related documents from other departments and making trade loan submissions to our bank
- Assigning landed costs to SKUs within the inventory
- Confirming bank details with new suppliers before payment
- Support the team with ongoing finance projects and the opportunity to have full ownership over certain finance projects
- Assist with queries and requests from other departments (e.g. Logistics, Retail, Customer Experience, Product, etc.)
- Support the Finance department with any other ad-hoc tasks and projects required.
It’s a super exciting time to come aboard Mous, here are the basics we need from you:
- Ideally, you’ll have a degree in Accounting and Finance or completion of AAT under your belt, but this isn’t a prerequisite (we also offer Study Support if you’ve got your eyes on the relevant qualifications ?)
- We’d love to see some previous experience in a Finance Assistant or Finance intern role, ideally working with accounting systems
- A knack for numbers with strong working knowledge of Excel
- Excited about a career in Finance, using this eagerness and enthusiasm to take ownership of these responsibilities
- A level of attention to detail that will put us all to shame! You’ll understand that your accuracy is critical to the success of the Finance function and the business itself
- A true problem-solver, with the ability to think outside of the box and be proactive in offering improvements
- High adaptability and enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic start-up/SME environment
- Above all, you’ll be a highly ambitious self-starter with the drive to push both the business and yourself to the next level!
