In 2003, following the start of foreign military operations in Iraq, DRC became one of the first organisations to provide humanitarian assistance in the country and now operates in 11 governorates, including Anbar, Baghdad, Babel, Diyala, Duhok, Erbil, Karbala, Kirkuk, Najaf, Ninewa and Salah-al-Din.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Finance Assistant provides administrative or technical support to the finance department. Carries out straight forward tasks under direct supervision and guidance of Finance Team Leader.

  • Responsibilities:

 

  • To perform the duties of Cashier, which includes responsibility for all cash transactions in the office, safe management, and daily cash count and reconciliation.
  • Ensure any cash received is banked intact and immediately and that Office petty cash is securely stored.
  • Prepare monthly cash counts.
  • To process payment vouchers and ensure supporting documents are submitted according to DRC global rules as well as country specific regulations;
  • To issue operational and program advances, maintain advances tracker and process settlements in compliance with advances SoPs;
  • To organize, file and scan all payment vouchers with related supporting documents in a proper archiving.
  • To be the finance focal point for cash distributions, checking documentation prior to and after distributions and being present to monitor distributions and payments as required.
  • Processing daily payments within 3 to 5 working days. This includes prioritization of payments according to their urgency i.e. closing projects
  • To make bank runs including transfer requests, withdrawals, and issuing/receiving letters and bank statements etc.…
  • To maintain daily cash books and ensure the accuracy and quality of bi-weekly cash books, Routine record keeping.
  • Correctly use DRC Dynamics functionalities in area of concern.
  • Follows a given work plan
  • To provide the support and the tasks that given by the Finance team leader.

 

  • Reporting
  • Support financial report preparations
  • Submit progress and status reports

 


Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

Experience and technical competencies:

 

Required:

  • Minimum of one year experience working in a similar position.
  • Experience of managing and handling cash.
  • Good knowledge of computer skills (MS-Excel, MS-Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong written and mathematical skills.
  • Experience of working with UN or Non-Governmental organizations.
  • To be able and willing to travel and stay overnight outside location of work, to support DRC’s operations.

Preferred attributes

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to priorities large and changeable workload.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work independently and energetically.
  • Education:

 (Include certificates, licenses etc.)

University degree an advantage.

Degree in Accounting preferred.

 

Languages:

Arabic required. English Mid-level required.
