Background:

SoCha, LLC is contracted to provide technical and advisory services to the United States Agency for International Development in the Democratic Republic of Congo (USAID/DRC) on the 5-year Mission Strategic Support Program (MSSP). The purpose of MSSP is to provide these services in planning, designing, conducting, disseminating, and learning from monitoring and evaluation of the Mission’s portfolios assisting the mission with the strategy and activity-level performance monitoring, evaluation and learning, including conducting data gathering and verification, data visualization (with Geographic Information Systems), data quality assessments, impact and performance evaluations, assessments, organizational learning, and collaboration among USAID implementing partners, developing a baseline M&E knowledge within the mission and tailoring a curriculum to provide skills development to the mission staff.

SoCha is looking for an experienced Field Monitor Interviewer for a mission of 15 days.

Responsibilities:

Interviewers will perform the following tasks:

  • Responsible for data collection and for ensuring the execution of these activities according to the directives of the supervisor.
  • Actively participate in the training session organized by SoCha before the deployment of the field team for data collection.
  • Ensure communication with local authorities and other stakeholders in the field about the survey.
  • Identify respondents to be interviewed in the field and obtain verbal or written consent before administering the survey questionnaire.
  • Actively participate in morning and evening debriefing sessions and share any information that may positively or negatively impact data collection.
  • Contribute to a daily report on the progress of data collection activities while maintaining open communication with the supervisor.
  • Ensuring safety while collecting data in the field and inform supervisor.
  • Ensure the objectives of the field investigation are met in a timely manner and all collection activities are carried out in accordance with the protocol given by his supervisor, by submitting the forms to the Kobo server and capturing evidence deemed useful in the field.
  • Carefully keep the collection material assigned according to the protocol given by the supervisor and ensure the delivery of each material before the end of the field visit.
  • Perform any additional task requested by the supervisor.

Minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Hold a university degree (BAC+3) in one of the following disciplines: statistics, economics, social sciences, anthropology, law, education, community development, monitoring and evaluation, public health, medicine, conflict management, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience collecting qualitative and quantitative data in international organizations and preferably with USAID-funded organizations.
  • Ability to use multiple digital data collection tools such as Kobo, ODK, CommCare, SurveyCTO and the use of Androids.
  • Ability to speak and write fluent French and several national languages of the DRC with a good knowledge of local cultures and customs. It is mandatory to speak the local language of the specific locations of the deployment.
  • Ability to write a field report at the end of data collection in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of the “Do No Harm” principle, sensitivity to conflict, abuse and gender-based violence (PAA, PSEA, Safeguard).
  • Ability to work in difficult conditions and in fragile areas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong desire to establish good working relationships with colleagues and target communities in the field.
  • Able to be deployed to the field on short notice based on urgent project needs.

Location:

The selected candidates will be deployed to the territories of their respective provinces according to the specific needs of the project under the supervision of the MEL team of the SoCha office in Goma.
