Simprints

Vaccination is a cost-effective way to promote children’s long-term health. However, ensuring all children receive their full complement of vaccines on time continues to be difficult, and inconsistent data about what children have been vaccinated and when makes improving vaccination rates challenging. Biometrics has the potential to help address this challenge by giving healthcare practitioners a unique way to identify children over time. While progress has been made in labs, as of yet there is no readily available fingerprint biometrics solution for very young children that can operate in frontline contexts.

To address this gap, Simprints, the world’s only nonprofit biometrics company, has partnered with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the technology company NEC on a research and development initiative to create and pilot fingerprint biometrics that work well for young children and that would ultimately support improvements in immunisation coverage.

Simprints is seeking a field coordinator to track the use of biometrics within the immunisation programme and share key insights from implementation to improve the process further. This role is initially fixed term until March 2023 with the possibility of extension.

Plan daily field visits to (at least 2) vaccination centres and follow up implementation activities based on the following criteria:

Field Monitoring Criteria – Ease of use and acceptability of the technology

Data collection indicators –

  • Percentage of users (vaccinators) who correctly deploy biometrics in a vaccination centre (enrolment and verification)
  • Factors which encourage and/or discourage users to adopt biometric technology
  • Percentage of parents who agree for their child to be biometrically enrolled
  • Perceptions on ease of and acceptability from users the community (parents and children)
  • Level of understanding of parents regarding how biometric data will be used
  • Factors encouraging/ discouraging parents to agree to the biometric enrolment of their children including:
  • Children’s overall experience and reaction to the process of biometric enrolment

Field Monitoring Criteria – User performance and monitoring

Data collection indicators –

  • Number of users getting incentives for best performance
  • Monitoring proper disbursement of incentives to users and reporting any mismanagement

Field Monitoring Criteria – Accuracy and data quality

Data collection indicators – Percentage of times the biometric method successfully verifies the child with fingerprints

Field Monitoring Criteria – Effectiveness and Efficiency
