Job Description:
Kansas City University is seeking a seasoned communicator who will serve as the executive writer for content across a wide variety of tactics; primarily for the university president but also as a writer and content strategist in collaboration with the University Relations team across all marketing/communications platforms. This position reports to the executive director of University Relations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing communications from the Office of the President; including but not limited to remarks for events, op/eds and bylined articles, interview responses, talking points, internal and external communications targeting faculty, staff, alumni and donors
  • Contributes as content strategist and member of the Department of University Relations
  • Collaborates with the team and shares responsibility for telling the KCU story across all marketing and communications platforms;
  • Provides strategic input; and writing editorial content for newsletters, magazines, quarterly reports, and social media in collaboration with the University Relations team

Qualifications:

  • A successful candidate will present a proven track record exhibiting the ability to think strategically in order to infuse thought leadership in alignment with an organization’s mission, vision and values
  • Must possess the capacity to research independently in order to inform a variety of topics related to health science education and make recommendations to the president regarding timely themes

Additional Qualifications:

  • Possess an eagle eye for detail with an impeccable ability to fact-check, proofread and edit with speed and accuracy;
  • Ability to capture the voice of the president;
  • Provide confident, honest and respectful feedback to senior leadership;
  • Assist with communications from the Chairman of the Board;
  • Draft reports presented quarterly to the Board of Trustees; and
  • Be able to thrive in a tremendously fast-paced environment
  • Limited travel is required; primarily between the University Kansas City Campus and the Joplin, Missouri Campus
