Native Scientist

Role: EU-MSCA and Citizens-funded Project Lead

Location: a mix of remote and on-site work (Braga and Lisbon, Portugal) Accountable to: Director Remuneration: 1600 € per month (base pay) Duration: 24 months Start date: as soon as possible. Type of employment: full-time fixed-term contract. Role purpose

To coordinate RAISE, an EU-MSCA and Citizens-funded project that aims to engage diverse audiences in science through the implementation of two educational programmes linking researchers with schools (Cientista Regressa à Escola and Ciência di Noz Manera) and the organization of two editions of the European Researchers Night (2022 and 2023). The project is a collaboration between Native Scientist (an NGO in the field of science education and outreach), Champalimaud Foundation (a Private Non-Profit Biomedical Research Foundation), iMM – Instituto de Medicina Molecular (a Private Non-Profit Biomedical Research center), and ImpactEd (an NGO in the field of impact evaluation/assessment).

Responsibilities

As Project Lead of RAISE, you’ll be responsible for the management and implementation of two science education programmes that take scientists to schools, and two European Researchers Nights in 2022 and 2023. Specifically, you will be responsible for :

  • Managing and implementing RAISE’s activities ensuring that the deliverables and milestones are achieved;
  • Leading RAISE’s communications, internally and externally, making it a vibrant, socially-driven, well-managed project;
  • Assisting the team in carrying out their tasks and activities, reporting on progress and success to key stakeholders and to the EU;
  • Building and maintaining contacts with students, teachers, scientists, artists, municipalities, media, and others;
  • Setting up collaborations and partnerships;
  • Analysing existing data and/or facilitating data collection to report on the impact of the activities;
  • Cooperating in preparing content and publications for a wide range of purposes;
  • Creating and managing RAISE’s website, content for social media, press releases, and other communications materials.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • 4+ years of experience in a managerial role involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in the organization of large public events.
  • Proven ability to define and adjust priorities.
  • Proven attention to detail and ability to manage large amounts of data and information.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese and English.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute a marketing and communications strategy and to create engaging communications across a variety of media, including social media, video, and email. Design and editing skills are a plus.
  • Comfortable working with cloud-based software.
  • Passionate about promoting fair and quality science education.
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and can-do attitude.
