Enterprise Development Specialist, Eastern and Southern Caribbean

ACDI/VOCA is seeking an Enterprise Development Specialist for an anticipated economic development program in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean funded by USAID.

The Enterprise Development Specialist will be responsible for the program’s engagement with a range of entrepreneurship support organizations and BDS providers, both private and public. The program is anticipated to start in 2022. This position could be based in Barbados or other countries within the geographic focus.

Responsibilities

  • Using a facilitative market systems approach, support the local market and enable the Caribbean private sector to drive its own growth
  • Provide guidance on business development and advisory services to target microenterprises that improve entrepreneurship and competitiveness within the program’s key economic sectors
  • Form strategic partnerships and alliances that incorporate disadvantaged businesses, particularly ones located in rural areas, into competitive value chains
  • Provide direct technical assistance and advisory services as needed, coordinating closely with potential lenders and investors to enable Caribbean firms to access the finance and investment
  • Track progress towards core component indicators and learning objectives and propose strategic adaptations in response to market shifts
  • Design financial planning and business skills trainings for program-affiliated microenterprises
  • Implement technical assistance interventions to investment attraction and facilitation, commercial partnerships, and trade expansion

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, economics, or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the private sector or with development projects, with a strong emphasis on access to finance, entrepreneurship, and SME support.
  • Experience creating solutions to financing constraints for microenterprise agribusiness companies and their diverse (often rural) clients/supply chain partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance and advisory services to a range of financial service providers.
  • Knowledge of and experience with USAID and/or other international Donor programs’ rules and regulations.
  • Experience working in Eastern and Southern Caribbean preferred.
  • Fluency in English required.
