This role is within the Amptek Business unit, located in Bedford, MA. Amptek is a high technology company and a recognized world leader in the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art x-ray and gamma ray detectors and associated electronics.

Position Summary

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, small group of mixed engineers and scientists. During this 3-month period you will lead a project to advance our manufacture of detectors and instrumentation with opportunities to contribute to other engineering activities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge in a dynamic environment.

The Engineering Intern may need to design experiments, test products, and build and maintain test fixtures. Specific skills often include performing modifications and fabrication with hand tools, and measurements with standard measurement and test instruments (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering irons, etc). Additionally, generate sketches, and representations for product and test prototypes, to be fabricated & assembled. Knowledge of materials & components for basic design, & skills to research them are required.

Position Requirements

  • Rising junior or higher.
  • Education: 4-year degree in progress. (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics).
  • Writing skills to accurately document data and observations from testing including basic statistics & Engineering analysis of data.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Present to peers, leaders, and upper management as needed.

Desireable Skills

  • Experience programming.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems.
  • Generating schematics or PCB layout.

COMMENTS

  • 0% travel.
  • Onsite work required.
  • Ability to work within a matrix organization requires the ability to engage stakeholders across functions and to seek consensus where needed.
