Name of position: Emergency Coordinator

Length of employment: Initially 12 months, with possibility of an open-ended contract

Type of position: Full time

Place of employment: Prague, Czech Republic (+ occassional travels if security situation allows it)

Start date: as soon as possible

Organizational context

Caritas Czech Republic (CCR) is a non-profit non-governmental organization with field activities implemented worldwide (Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa) and an extensive social services programme in the Czech Republic assisting more than 100,000 clients. CCR is a member of the international network of the Caritas Internationalis and cooperates with a number of international and local partners.

In addition to emergency response in case of natural and man-made disasters, the organization focuses on 4 key thematic areas: 1) health care and social services; 2) sustainable livelihoods and small-scale entrepreneurship; 3) vocational education (youth and adults); 4) assistance to refugees and internally displaced people.

CRR has 20-year experience in managing social welfare programmes, including support to people with disabilities. The organization adheres to core humanitarian principles, including gender equality.

Due to the ongoing large-scale armed conflict in Ukraine and its impact on civilians, CCR expands its current team and is going to hire new colleagues to cover related humanitarian response agenda.

Responsibilities

Emergency Coordinator (EC) is responsible for providing support to an emergency team coordinating interventions in Ukraine and neighbouring countries as well as the team at Headquarters in Prague. EC cooperates closely with respective Financial Coordinator (FC) and Regional Manager (RM). Specific EC’s roles include (please note a detailed job description will be provided upon hiring):

Coordination of all aspects of this intervention

– Contribute to coordination of all engaged parties, negotiates with partners, develops and maintains smooth communication and cooperation flow among all the parties.

Support of CCR projects implementation

– Supervise and monitor interventions implemented by the partners in line with CCR Monitoring and Evaluation Manual and ensure the implementation is in line with given projects´ objectives and respective donor rules.

– Complete and finalize project reports in cooperation with RM and FC.

– Coordinate project activities taking place in the Czech Republic.

– Communicate with Czech donors and provide them with timely and accurate information about project implementation.

– Support RM in communication with international donors, partners and experts when needed.

– Pro-actively address challenges and problems identified in project implementation

Qualifications and competencies

Required

  • valid EU residence permit
  • university degree
  • excellent knowledge of English (oral and written)
  • excellent writing skills (both Czech and English)
  • excellent organizational and coordination skills
  • ability to perform tasks in pro-active, independent, quality and timely manner
  • ability and readiness to improvise when needed and solve problems in creative way
  • advanced user skills of MS Office software (predominantly MS Excel and Word)

Recommended

  • knowledge of Ukrainian and/ or Russian language
  • university degree in relevant fields (development and humanitarian studies, human rights, social sciences, business management and similar)
  • experience in project cycle management in development cooperation and / or humanitarian aid
  • project proposal writing skills
  • project report writing skills
  • familiarity with project financial management
