The Opportunity – Education in Emergencies Coordinator.

Post location: Gaza Field Office – Rafah and subject to change based on SC priorities and response in Gaza.

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 6months with possibility of extension.

ROLE PURPOSE:

As the EiE Coordinator, your role is to lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of education programs in line with Save the Children’s mission and international standards. You’ll ensure access to quality education for children affected by crisis, advocating for their rights and fostering their holistic development.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Education Programme Manager.

Staff reporting to this post: TBC.

Budget Responsibilities: None.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Program Planning and Management:

    • Lead the development of education program strategies, annual plans, and budgets in alignment with organizational goals, donor requirements, and humanitarian principles.
    • Coordinate with program staff and partners to implement and monitor education projects, ensuring timely delivery of activities and achievement of objectives.
  2. Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that education programs adhere to international standards and best practices, including those related to curriculum development, teacher training, and child protection.
    • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to monitor the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of education interventions and identify areas for improvement.
  3. Teacher Training and Capacity Building:

    • Facilitate training sessions and workshops for teachers, education facilitators, and community volunteers to enhance their pedagogical skills, classroom management techniques, and understanding of child rights.
    • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to education staff, promoting professional development and knowledge sharing within the team.
  4. School Infrastructure and Resources:

    • Assess and address the infrastructure needs of schools and learning centers, including facilities, furniture, and supplies, to create safe, inclusive, and conducive learning environments for children.
    • Coordinate the distribution of educational materials, textbooks, and school supplies to ensure equitable access for all students, particularly those from marginalized or vulnerable groups.
  5. Community Engagement and Participation:

    • Engage with parents, caregivers, community leaders, and local authorities to promote the importance of education, encourage school enrollment, and foster community support for education initiatives.
    • Facilitate parent-teacher associations and community education committees to strengthen partnerships and promote collaborative decision-making in education planning and management.
  6. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL):

    • Develop and implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track progress, measure impact, and capture lessons learned from education programs.
    • Regularly analyze data and feedback to inform program adjustments, improve performance, and enhance accountability to beneficiaries, donors, and other stakeholders.
  7. Emergency Preparedness and Response:

    • Develop contingency plans and emergency response strategies to ensure the continuity of education services during crises, including conflict, natural disasters, and pandemics.
    • Coordinate with other sectors and agencies to integrate education into multi-sectoral emergency response efforts, addressing the specific needs of children and adolescents in emergencies.
  8. Reporting and Documentation**:**

    • Prepare timely and accurate reports on education program activities, achievements, challenges, and recommendations for internal and external dissemination.
    • Maintain comprehensive records of project documentation, including budgets, workplans, progress reports, and beneficiary data, in compliance with organizational and donor requirements.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Education, Social Studies or in a relevant subject.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 4+ years of experience in the field and 1 year of experience in running education programs.
  • Previous experience of supervising, coaching and/or managing people
  • Experience of, and commitment to, working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact, and diplomacy
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI. In particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
  • Experience in community liaison.
  • A high level of written and spoken Arabic and English.

Desirable

  • Experience of managing programmes in complex conflict-affected environments
  • Experience working and building the capacity of partners on technical issues.
  • Experience in managing project budgets.
  • Experience in representing an organisation in external meetings.
  • Experience in any of the relevant fields, Youth programming, protection and psychosocial support programmes, in emergency contexts.
