Sightsavers implements projects in over 30 countries in Africa and South Asia working to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote the rights of people with disabilities. We are looking for a Driver/Admin Assistant to work with the Finance & Support Service Manager in Ghana.

Contract length: 2 years

Job purpose

The purpose of the job is to provide logistical and general office logistical support in all areas, key among them driving staff in office vehicles to various destinations, ensuring that vehicles are clean and road worthy and any other administrative duties as assigned by the line manager

Principal accountabilities:

  1. Driving 60%
  • Drive safely within the laws of (Country) at all times and with respect for other pedestrians
  • Act as driver for Staff to carry out all official duties
  • Pick Sightsavers staff to & from Airport where this service is not outsourced
  • Drive Sightsavers vehicle as appropriate for official errands
  1. Maintenance of Vehicles 20%
  • Check fuel, oil, and water daily and fill up as necessary
  • Keep vehicles in a clean condition inside and outside
  • Check tyres, logbooks, tools, etc. and test drive each vehicle once a week
  • Undertake routine maintenance of vehicles, including simple repairs
  • Keep a maintenance record of vehicles such as replacement of major parts, tyres, batteries, body spraying, etc.
  1. Administrative Duties 20%
  • Assist to keep up to date records on all supplies, consumables, and other items in the store – including vehicle tyres and spare parts
  • Taking of photographs during programme activities
  • Assist in picking up invoices for procuring logistics
  • Maintain liaison with officials of immigration and embassies for staff entry visas and renewal of passports and work permits

Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):

At least completion of secondary education (BECE) BEPC

Substantial working experience, in reputable private firm or NGO

Skills (Special Training or Competence):

  • Clean and valid driving licence
  • Minimum 3 years accident-free driving – free driving record with reputable private firm or NGO
  • Good command of spoken English/French (As appropriate)
  • Minimum driving license class C for at least 2 years

Key behaviours:

  • Availability for emergency work on weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to travel at short notice

We anticipate that remote interviews will take place from beginningmid – September 2022 onwards and the evaluation process will require a driving and eye test.
