The position is expected to collaborate cross-functionally with various departments at Atlanta HQ as well as Area Offices and National Organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Play a lead role in generating evidence and developing knowledge products on volunteerism for use by the Habitat network through research, measurement and volunteer policy engagement
• Provide thought leadership and substantive guidance for integration of volunteerism into HFHI’s global, regional and national programming initiatives
• Oversee development of innovative volunteering solutions – or re-design of existing programs – to position volunteerism as a cross-cutting means of implementation of HFHI’s strategy and priorities
• Contribute to global policy discourse on volunteering in development – and for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – based on HFHI’s value proposition
• Lead HFHI’s volunteer knowledge management and oversee documentation of best practices and development of tools and guidance notes
• Serve as subject matter expert and provide advisory services to Area Offices and National Organizations, as required and relevant, on global and HFHI specific knowledge and evidence on volunteerism
• Promote and model organizational culture that supports innovation, adaptation, consultation and risk-taking
• Facilitate effective and dynamic decision-making in matters within the purview of the VIE team as well as that of the sub-team to be managed by this role (e.g. diagnosis of issues and challenges, process management, resource mobilization)
• Act as Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Senior Director
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Requirements:
• Education: Masters
• Years of Related Experience: 10 years of leadership in volunteer engagement and volunteer programming in sustainable development or humanitarian contexts.

Qualifications:
• Knowledge of sustainable development and related global issues
• Strategy development and program design experience
• Demonstrated success engaging youth, diverse audiences and community-based volunteers
• Global/virtual team management skills and experience
• Metrics driven, with a focus on driving results
• High degree of self-reliance and resourcefulness to lead processes that may not be clearly defined and are constantly evolving with an action-oriented mindset; influence without formal authority; creative problem-solver.
• Ability to interface with, influence and provide excellent advisory service to all levels of the organization (Board, senior leaders, middle management of HFHI, US Affiliates, international Area Offices and country programs).
• Demonstrated ability to challenge ideas of senior leaders and offer alternative solutions.
• Capacity to work cross-culturally and uphold HFHI’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Pursuant to current HFHI policy, this position requires full vaccination against COVID-19, except to the extent such requirement is prohibited by applicable law.
• Understanding of the non-profit sectors.

Preferred – in addition to minimum:
• Housing and shelter background
• Experience working as part of a federated network
• Active support of HFHI Values:
o Humility – We are part of something bigger than ourselves
o Courage – We do what’s right, even when it is difficult or unpopular
o Accountability – We take personal responsibility for Habitat’s mission
• Safeguarding: HFHI requires that all employees take seriously their ethical responsibilities to safeguarding our intended beneficiaries, their communities, and all those with whom we work. Managers at all levels have responsibilities to support and develop systems that create and maintain an environment that prevents harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse, safeguards the rights of beneficiaries and community members (especially children), and promotes the implementation of Habitat for Humanity’s code of conduct.
