Save the Children works in 120 countries around the world with the aim that all children should survive and thrive, get a great education, and be protected from violence as well as helped to cope with emergencies.

Save the Children has long recognised the strategic importance of France on the international stage, for their leadership and influence, as well as their contribution to funding and policy for development and humanitarian work. Save the Children France was incorporated and registered in 2022 with the support of the wider Save the Children movement.

About the role
As part of our 2022-24 global strategy, Save the Children now aims to further strengthen its programming and advocacy partnerships in France. To drive this vision, we are recruiting for a Director, who will be accountable for translating this vision into action.

Save the Children France currently consists of a 2-person team in France (including Director), with dotted line support from an extended functional team across the wider Save the Children movement. The Director role reports into the Save the Children France Steering Committee, comprised of senior leaders from across the Save the Children movement.

In this role, you will provide overall leadership for Save the Children’s engagement with the French Government and other key partners in France, to help deliver on Save the Children’s global strategy and breakthroughs for children.

You will be responsible for:

Future Strategy & Direction

• Reporting to the Save the Children France Steering Group, develop and execute an ambitious five-year strategy for strengthening Save the Children’s partnerships in France.
• Working across the Save the Children movement, to maximise potential from the French Government and other key partners to support Save the Children’s programmes, advocacy, and partnerships objectives.

Driving Partnerships

• Leading and driving Save the Children’s ambitions in France to create transformational partnerships, developing compelling partnership propositions and building long term relationships in support of Save the Children’s Global Goals.
• Representing Save the Children to counterparts within the French Government, and other key international development and humanitarian organisations.
• Working closely with Save the Children Country, Regional and Member offices, apply sound technical and programmatic knowledge to strengthen Save the Children’s engagement with MoFA and AFD at both the global, regional and country levels.
• Working with Save the Children’s global advocacy team, establish high level relationships in the French development and humanitarian sectors to further Save the Children’s global advocacy objectives.

Leadership & Governance

• Ensuring that the Save the Children France team is high performing, staffed with highly skilled and motivated individuals.
• Coordinating and providing leadership to the wider French Government account team through effective matrix management.
• Building engagement and ownership from the wider Save the Children Movement to deliver on Save the Children France’s strategy objectives.
• Leading on effective annual planning for Save the Children France, including setting and reporting on key performance indicators, including effective budget management.
• Providing a secretariat role to the Save the Children France Steering Group, supporting effective governance, including regular reporting on progress against Save the Children France’s strategy and annual plans.

About you

To be successful, you’ll demonstrate:

• Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, the French humanitarian and development sector, ideally with direct experience of working for the French Government and a strong existing network within the French humanitarian and development sector.
• Deep understanding of humanitarian and international development, including relevant programmatic, operational or technical experience.
• Strong track record of forming and delivering strategic high value partnerships including engagement at senior levels with governments officials.
• Experience of strategy development and delivery.
• Experience of working in a matrix environment, influencing change, and delivering results in large complex organisations (experience working for a federated INGO or equivalent organisation is desirable).
• Previous experience of building high performing teams.
• Fluency in French and English.
• Willingness and ability to travel to Paris regularly (as well as international travel at times).

• Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to network with and influence senior people both internally and externally to achieve a pre-defined outcome.
• Insightful and analytic, with the ability to communicate with impact to both internal and external audiences.

Ways of Working: This role will be based in France, with regular travel to Paris required and some international travel expected.

Dans le cadre de notre stratégie globale 2022-2024, Save the Children vise notamment à renforcer ses partenariats programmatiques et de plaidoyer en France. Pour mener à bien cette vision, nous recrutons un.e directeur.trice qui aura pour responsabilité principale de concrétiser cette ambition.

Save the Children France se compose actuellement d’une équipe de deux personnes en France (dont le.la directeur.trice), soutenue par une équipe fonctionnelle élargie et incluant différentes fonctions au sein du mouvement Save the Children. Le.la directeur.trice rend compte au comité de direction de Save the Children France, composé de cadres supérieurs du mouvement Save the Children.

L’objectif principal du poste est d’assurer la direction générale de la nouvelle entité Save the Children France, et notamment de son action auprès du gouvernement et de nos partenaires clés en France, afin de contribuer à la réalisation de la stratégie globale de Save the Children et de ses objectifs pour les enfants.

RÔLE ET RESPONSABILITÉS PRINCIPALES:

Stratégie et orientation futures
• En coordination avec le comité de direction de Save the Children France, développer et mettre en œuvre une stratégie quinquennale ambitieuse pour renforcer les partenariats de Save the Children en France.
• Travailler avec l’ensemble du mouvement Save the Children afin de maximiser le potentiel de notre partenariat avec le gouvernement français et d’autres partenaires clés, pour appuyer le financement des programmes, le plaidoyer et les objectifs de partenariat de Save the Children.

Partenariats
• Porter et réaliser les ambitions de Save the Children en France en établissant des partenariats transformationnels, en développant des propositions de partenariat convaincantes et en construisant des relations à long terme pour soutenir les objectifs globaux de Save the Children.
• Représenter Save the Children auprès des différents interlocuteurs au sein du gouvernement, de l’administration et d’autres organisations internationales clés dans le domaine de l’humanitaire et du développement.
• En étroite collaboration avec les différentes entités de Save the Children (nationales, régionales et globales), puiser dans l’expertise technique et programmatique de Save the Children afin de renforcer notre action auprès du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères et notamment du Centre de Crise et de Soutien, et de l’Agence Française de Développement aux niveaux international, régional et national.
• En collaboration avec l’équipe de plaidoyer international de Save the Children, établir des relations de haut niveau dans le secteur humanitaire et de développement français afin de réaliser nos objectifs.

Leadership et gouvernance
• Assurer la performance et la qualité du travail de l’équipe de Save the Children France.
• Coordonner et diriger l’équipe fonctionnelle élargie du partenariat France par le biais d’une gestion matricielle efficace.
• Susciter l’engagement et renforcer le soutien apporté par l’ensemble du mouvement Save the Children afin d’atteindre les objectifs établis par la stratégie de Save the Children France.
• Développer et mettre en œuvre une planification annuelle et une gestion efficace pour Save the Children France, y compris à travers la définition d’indicateurs de performance, ainsi qu’une gestion efficace du budget.
• Assurer le secrétariat du comité de pilotage de Save the Children France et mettre en place une gouvernance effective, notamment par la production régulière de rapports sur les progrès réalisés et relatifs à la stratégie et aux plans annuels de Save the Children France.

Profil du candidat

COMPÉTENCES PROFESSIONNELLES REQUISES :
• Expérience approfondie et excellente connaissance du secteur de l’aide humanitaire et du développement français sont essentielles.
• Expérience directe de travail avec le gouvernement français et un solide réseau au sein du secteur français de l’humanitaire et du développement sont hautement souhaitables.
• Maîtrise des enjeux et des tendances dans le domaine humanitaire et du développement au niveau international et expérience programmatique, opérationnelle ou technique pertinente.
• Solide expérience dans le développement et la conduite de partenariats stratégiques, y compris l’engagement à haut niveau avec des représentants des gouvernements.
• Solide expérience dans l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de stratégies.
• Expérience de travail dans un environnement matriciel avec fortes capacités d’influence, dans une structure large et complexe. Une expérience de travail au sein d’une organisation internationale fédérée ou présentant un degré de complexité semblable est souhaitable.
• Expérience dans la mise en place et la gestion d’équipes performantes.
• Excellente maîtrise du français et de l’anglais, à l’oral et a l’écrit.
• Être disposé à voyager à Paris régulièrement, ainsi qu’à l’international (à une moindre fréquence).

Le poste est basé en France, avec des déplacements réguliers sur Paris, ainsi que des déplacements à l’international.
