Job Summary

The School of Medicine and Public Health, Office of Academic Affairs is home to the Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Genetic Counselor Studies (MGCS), Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), and Master of Public Health (MPH) health professions programs dual degree programs. It also provides academic and/or administrative oversight for graduate medical education, continuing professional development, joint accreditation, health sciences library services, global health, research programs, multicultural affairs, and clinical simulation for health professions learners at all levels. The Native American Center for Health Professions and Ebling Library are part of the Academic Affairs community. Our programs prepare and inspire students to improve the health of patients and communities in Wisconsin and beyond. As such, the Office of Academic Affairs is home to diverse learners, faculty, and staff, partnering closely with other programs at the school and on campus.

The Director of Education Accreditation and Compliance oversees operations relevant to the academic mission of the school, largely in the office of Academic Affairs but also serving academic missions in other units and schools. The position will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs with a close matrixed relationship to other members of the Dean’s leadership team at the school, and academic and administrative leaders that serve the school or partner with the school.

This position is involved with and responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating, editing, helping finalize, disseminating, and updating affiliation agreements and contracts as required by the institution. This requires effective, productive, positive, and professional interactions with diverse educational and administrative leaders of complex health systems, academic health centers, university systems, campus partners, schools, departments, and health professional programs.

With Educational Faculty, Program, And Administrative Leaders As Well As Other Stakeholders (which May Include Staff, Students, And Community Members),the Director

The Director of Education Accreditation and Compliance develops and oversees effective processes and workflows to ensure full compliance for accreditation for all SMPH professional degree programs.

  • Develops and/or reviews processes, timelines, and workflows for all health professional programs at SMPH to ensure compliance with accreditation
  • Oversees effective quality improvement plans and process improvement practices related to the above areas
  • Assesses, tracks, and demonstrates successful outcomes relevant to accreditation standards, campus, and state policies
  • Provides leadership of, or participation in, special projects related to the academic mission of the institution as determined by the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs or other members of the Dean’s Leadership Team

Responsibilities: Directs compliance policy creation, decision-making, and a compliance program, and acts as the compliance lead for a school, college, or division. Responds to auditors on internal compliance audits to ensure compliance with institutional policies and/or laws and regulations. Coordinates with other compliance programs to ensure efficiency and communicate challenges to senior leadership.

  • 20% Directs strategic planning initiatives and creates unit objectives and goals to ensure compliance with established rules and regulations
  • 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 20% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • 20% Serves as the unit liaison to institutional and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the unit
  • 5% Directs the development of programs in the areas of administration, course development and management, policy development, and staff supervision
  • 10% Oversees affiliation agreements and contracts relevant to the educational academic mission of the school and other health professional schools at UW- Madison.
  • 10% Oversees effective processes and workflows for accreditation for all SMPH professional degree programs.

Education:

Master’s Degree

e.g. MPH, MHA, MEd, MBA

Preferred

Ph.D. or other terminal degree, e.g. DEd, Ph.D., JD

JD is strongly desired

Qualifications:

  • 5 years or more experience working with contracts, compliance, and/or accreditation in higher education or in a similar environment
  • Demonstrated outstanding time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Examples of exemplary written and oral communication
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders across multiple disciplines
