OMERS Infrastructure is a pioneer and global leader in infrastructure direct investing with over 20 years of experience originating, structuring, and actively managing infrastructure investments. We have over 65 investment professionals across offices in New York, Toronto, London, Singapore, and Sydney. OMERS Infrastructure manages approximately C$30 billion of investments on behalf of OMERS and strategic partners across a diversified global portfolio of airports, sea ports, power generation, pipelines, communications infrastructure, toll roads, utilities, and other essential services.

Reporting to the Managing Director and based in London, the Director will be a senior member of the OMERS Infrastructure Europe team working across all aspects of the investment life cycle including the sourcing of investments, transaction execution and the asset management of portfolio businesses.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for

  • Leads and supports the identification and origination of new investments across Europe, and supports portfolio companies in follow-on acquisitions and financing activities
  • Responsible for identifying new potential industries/countries for investment and leads the assessment of their attractiveness
  • Critically appraises investment opportunities and their value drivers and risks
  • Leads deal teams on a day-to-day basis whilst remaining hands-on across the entire execution process due diligence, valuation, structuring and transaction documentation
  • Responsible for the critical review of business plan and valuation analysis prepared by others including colleagues and external organizations to assess the financial returns of investment opportunities
  • Oversees the preparation of internal investment papers and takes a leading role in presenting findings and recommendations to investment committees for feedback and approval
  • Organise and participate in the negotiation of contracts in cooperation with internal and external partners including confidentiality agreements, purchase and sale agreements, shareholder agreements, tax agreements, financing agreements and engagement agreements with external advisors
  • Partners with appropriate internal/external specialists to evaluate domestic and international tax and legal structures to improve the overall investment returns and mitigate risks
  • Sits on the boards of investee companies and works closely with fellow shareholders to provide strong governance and drive value creation by providing direction to executive management
  • Builds relationship and effectively collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Independently makes important, sound decisions and recommendations with limited input by the Managing Director
  • Critically assesses a situation (financial outputs, competitive environment, potential variables) and develops a strategy to achieve desired outcomes
  • Acts as a mentor for junior team members, promoting their development and growth and fostering an energized environment.

To succeed in this role, you have

  • Approximately 10+ years of infrastructure M&A experience gained in an investment bank, another equity investor or a corporate
  • A track record as an originator and executor of investments in the European infrastructure sector
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to lead teams and interact with a broad range of professionals
  • Leadership capability to mentor, coach and develop junior team members
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Established negotiation skills
  • Very strong commercial, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic; able to multitask effectively and work independently
  • University degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Accounting. Enrollment or completion of a post-graduate degree
