Responsibilities
- 5. Successful acquisition and maintenance of ELSO Platinum status.6. Personnel training and competence.7. Maintains all ECMO policies and procedures by adherence to organizational, departmental and outside regulatory requirements; and by monitoring operational and clinical outcomes. 8. Assures submission of appropriate information for successful billing.9. Supply assessment and inventory management.
- Participate in research and formal presentations. Participate with the submission of one scientific abstract per year. Support Procirca contractual obligations by contributing to the successful execution of services. Travel as needed to complete core responsibilities.Perform other duties as assigned.
- 10. Equipment assessment and acquisition.11. Develop Team of ECMO staff to provide locum coverage internally and externally. 12. Direct management of ECMO leads at each site.13. Preparation and management of patient and family guide.
- Collaborate with Stat MedEvac and ECMO hospital medical leadership to assure safe and effective transport coverageCollaborate with medical leadership and support research projects. Develop, implement, and maintain new business models involving ECMO program assessments and personnel coverage.
- Maintain optimal communication, close cooperation, and consultation with attending physicians.Demonstrate the application of clinical perfusion skills by adhering to departmental and professional standards.Maintain proficiency with various perfusion techniques to include hemodilution, hemofiltration, hypothermia, hyperthermia, blood management, myocardial preservation, and liver bypass. Responsible for administration of medication, blood components, and anesthetic agents via extracorporeal circulation in consultation with or under the direction of the attending physician.Maintain competency/proficiency with laboratory equipment and processes. Understand and implement specific regulatory requirements and quality assurance practices.Participate on one committee with the focus of patient care.Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and values.
- Collaborates with the perfusion directors, open heart ICU attending physicians and nurse practitioners, and nurse manager to assure appropriate staffing.Provides supervision and guidance to all Perfusionists and other ECMO team members including nursing and respiratory staff.Promotes the continuing education and skill maintenance of the ECMO team.Participates in direct ECMO patient care 10%-30% of work time. Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that is age and developmental need specific.Provide management of UPMC ECMO programs including Presbyterian, Shadyside, Passavant, Altoona, Hamot and Procirca external clients.Areas covered include:1. Budget ? operating and capital.2. Personnel coverage.3. Maintenance of quality management program including chart reviews, outcome results, and periodic mortality and morbidity meetings.4. Data management for Periapp, Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), and other metrics.
- Potential to take on-call schedule for ECMO specific coverage.Demonstrates effective instruction and supervision of students by adhering to the clinical objectives of the UPMC School of Perfusion.Maintain continuing education, ABCP certification and Pennsylvania perfusion license.
- Provide oversight of ECMO training programs within UPMC and external sites including:1. Marketing of Adult Comprehensive and Boot Camp courses2. Preparation of Request for Proposal including pro forma 3. Training and scheduling of education staff 4. Preparation and application submission for CME and CEU5. Research venues for training courses, negotiate contracts, and execute contracts. 6. Oversight of the Shadyside Simulation Center in cooperation with the Lead of Simulation Management
Qualifications
- Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited school of cardiovascular perfusion or met Grandfather Clause of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and Pennsylvania Licensing Board.
- 5 years of Perfusion experience preferred.
- 3 years of ECMO experience preferred.
- 2 year of simulation and training experience preferred.
- Physical Requirements-According to UPMC policy and include ability to transport via ambulance and air.
Licensure, Certifications, And Clearances
Licensure/Certification Required: Certified according to guidelines of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Pennsylvania perfusion license according to House Bills 500 and 501 Current Pennsylvania driver’s license.
